About the Dragons/Dogs blockbuster not being moved to ANZ to get a 50k crowd!

16k at Wollongong - great crowd - looked great on telly too. Great atmosphere and the players responded. The Dragons played great footy and loved the occasion. The Dogs were fired up -and the frustration showed. Even the Morris twins hammed it up.

But, give that these two were top 2 all year, one would think that from those that equated last weeks game at Parramatta as a 50k cert based on last years results, the same whinge would have been loud and clear. But no only did the Telecrap remain eerily silent, so did those mongs that whined wholeheartedly last week. I guess it shows who cannot conjure up a single thought unless it first appear in a News Ltd paper.

16k showing up to see a clash between two of sydney's largest supported clubs + two clubs that had fairly successful seasons last year is not a great crowd, no matter how much you try to sugar coat it.

Greenburg and Doust were much smarter than Osborne in this regard.

Ossie engaged with the Telegraph's crap when talk first started about moving the Round 1 game. If pushed into commenting on possible ground shifts for a big game this year, I'd imagine Greenberg and Doust wouldn't give that rag the time of day... and hopefully Osborne has learned his lesson about dogs and fleas.

Pfft! A clash of 2 of "sydney's" 2 biggest clubs, played an hour and a half away in Wollongong! Wollongong crowds must be judged as Wollongong crowds. Trying to get to the gong and through Sydney traffic on a Friday afternoon/night after work is near impossible. Especially when its live on TV. And the match was declared a sellout, even though it wasn't a capacity figure announced. My guess is that they capped the hill capacity in case of any trouble like last years game.

Either way, it was a great Wollongong Friday night crowd. Crowds are not about numbers, they're about perception. It looked fantastic last night and that is all that matters.

The return match will get 30-40,000 at ANZ, provided the bulldogs aren't 0-8!

It was announced a sellout last night. Might not have been completely full but they're not going to sell to absolute capacity for safety's sake.

1st 20 mins should be stricken from the record...

Dogs were kept back 15+m, Dragons were back less than 5m, but only penalised once.

Dogs were repeatedly penalised for flops and holding down in the ruck, but St. George were left off for similar repeat offences.

Home crowd comes into play to an extent, but Finch should still be sacked...

For the record...

I wish the Dogs had a similar home ground advantage still, more power to the teams who are fostering such an atmosphere.

The Cowboys hadn't beaten the Dogs in their first 10 years in the comp, but once they started playing well their crowd were definitely a factor.

Home crowd advantage can't win a game by itself, but it sure does help in the close ones.

Any club CEO who pushes for home ground advantage over blockbuster deserves support IMO.

And this coming from a supporter who will be on the wrong side of the ledger more often than not...

I think this blockbuster crowd thing is getting hyped up is a myth as it was only one game last year.People need to calm down plus if there is going to be any blockbuster crowds it's going to come at the business end of the season.

Geez, Brutus is quiet!

Bulldogs v Dragons in Wollongong. Nice crowd for Wollongong, but the Gong aint Sydney.

The two teams play again at ANZ Stadium later in the year. If both are going well, be interesting to see the numbers. Got an early prediction Loudy?

f**k off.
Still bitter from last years game?
THAT was their chance for revenge.
They f**ked it up, they may get another one sometime later this year, until then, move on my friend, move on.

agree. Saints v Parra in round 1 was never going to get any more than 25k anyway.

I vote we bring back the season opener double header they used to do at ANZ. I'd go to it.

Weak as piss response. According to the NRL during the rationalisation years, Wollongong IS part of Sydney. Why not demand that game be moved? I'm sure you will grieve for the 30 000 Dogs and Dragons fans locked out.........

28k - both won't be going well.
