Doesn't really matter. We will just play him and say it is Tom, while he is suspended.

No, in all seriousness, what a boofhead. PERFECT timing......literally.

Moronic. I'll be even more disappointed if it turns out any senior players were with him at the time.

Madge will be blowing up deluxe.

I bet when he does come back from suspension it is via the Bears.

Doing it anytime is stupid, to do it in the current climate...you just shake your head.

Agree.

Will Luke B or Tom B be called up or maybe Sam B to the front row, Sutto to lock and Keary to start at 5/8?

Diasappointing that he's gone and done something so dumb. He'll have a few weeks on the sideline to think about it.

South Sydney Rabbitohs player George Burgess has apologised for letting ‘‘my team and my family down’’ after he was charged with smashing a car window in Cairns this week.

The 21-year-old has been charged with two counts of wilful damage after he allegedly threw a street sign through the rear window of a vehicle following post-match celebrations in the Cairns suburb of Redlynch early on Monday morning.

I acknowledge that I am a role model for kids and I will do everything I can to restore my reputation through working harder in the community.

Burgess has been stood down from the Rabbitohs while an investigation continues, the Rabbitohs said in a statement, adding that Burgess had ‘‘admitted guilt to the charges and is co-operating with police’’.

In a statement released by the club, Burgess apologised for his actions and said he would learn from his mistake.

“I would like to apologise unreservedly to the Rabbitohs Members, sponsors and everyone in the community,” Burgess said.

“I have let my team and my family down.

“I acknowledge that I am a role model for kids and I will do everything I can to restore my reputation through working harder in the community.

“It is my responsibility to ensure that this type of behaviour does not happen again.

“I will learn from my mistake and bounce back stronger and better as a person.”

The Rabbitohs defeated the Gold Coast Titans 30-24 in a match at Barlow Park in Cairns on Sunday to retain top spot on the NRL premiership ladder.

Burgess had been celebrating his team’s win at Gilligan’s, a backpackers' hotel and entertainment venue, in central Cairns on Sunday night, several hours before the alleged offence at 2.45am on Redlynch Intake Road.

Queensland Police confirmed a 21-year-old NSW man had been charged with two counts of wilful damage following an incident in Redlynch about 2.45am on Monday.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the man was charged with the alleged "wilful damage of a vehicle".

The 21-year-old has been bailed to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on July 10.

The Rabbitohs said in a statement that the NRL Integrity Unit had been notified of the incident on Monday morning.

"The Rabbitohs have stood Burgess down pending further investigation and are working with the NRL Integrity Unit regarding the details of the penalty to be imposed,’’ the statement said.

Burgess made his NRL debut in 2012, and is one of four brothers who are all signed to the Rabbitohs, including his twin brother Thomas.

The charges come after a separate alleged incident on Sunday night involving Raiders player Blake Ferguson, who was stood down from the NSW Origin team and had his NRL contract suspended following allegations he indecently assaulted a woman during a drinking session with former teammate Josh Dugan.

A police statement said Ferguson, 23, had been charged with indecently assaulting a 23-year-old woman at a Cronulla nightclub at about 10.30pm on Sunday.

any senior players were with him at the time.

This is one of the very first things that came to mind for mine. More specifically, big brother.

But if you think about it, if "little" brother is 150kg and over six foot (and is probably charged up after a few beers), then little brother is probably going to do what little brother wants to do.

On any given weekend around Australia 20 something year old boys do stupid stuff on the sauce. Not worth hanging him. The only concern I have is where is the apology to the owner of the property he damaged? I see the members of the Rabbitohs, the club, the community... but the victim of his crime? That's the telling bit.

According to Cairns police the team was celebrating at a nightclub (what happened to the supposed alcohol ban?) in their CBD, but George's incident took place in the outer suburbs.

Hope he remembers how he got out there.

I agree completely. The victim should be the first person that George apologises to.

I said in the thread about this on the main forum that I think while he is suspended, he should remain up in Cairns and complete some community service there as well. The club has spent a week up there building good will only for George to wreck all of that in one hit. A bit of community service is the least that he can do.

Very stupid, disappointing, bad timing but nowhere near the scale of Ferguson's alleged incident.

Drunk, young and stupid. Most of us can remember those days.

Massive over reaction and only half the story has been reported.
Ask yourself. He wouldnt smash the back window of a car for no reason... The car driver did something to provoke it. Just get the reported to actually report the correct version.

The guy almost ran them over after an argument. So a sign was thrown and it hit the back window and he went running to the fuzz.

I thought there would be more to it........the way it has been reported made it sound like he did it simply because he was pi55ed.

Pissed after midnight at a backpacker joint... no good can come of it. As a giant human being he needs to learn to control his temper. It's just stupid testosterone driven bloke stuff. He could put his visa in jeopardy... is a night out worth it?
