Apparently Firman signed a three year deal with the Dragqueens late last year.

Why don't you stick with Kurt Gidley at half and look for another five eight?

Personally I'd like to see Hages give Ennis a shot at the five eighth spot. He was everyone's golden boy at the start of the year- and maybe the added freedom of a starting spot and the ability to call some of the shots will kick him into gear.

Not too keen on Tyrie, our defence is already suspect without throwing a garden gnome into the fray.

Realistically we should be able to beat the Dragons, provided we're determined in defence and the ring in half can let Kidley work his magic and still have some input. Guys like Rudder were just awful to watch in action from five eighth- as they basically hung off Joey's arm and filled a jersey.

Orford has got to be the clubs target - Johns (or his agent is any way) is already talking up his next contract and considering all offers - not showing us any sort of loyalty. The guy is incredibly brittle for his size.

Orford has to be our man in my opinion.

So your suggesting leave Kidley at 5/8th and Tyrie at 7? No thoughts on the Kidley/Witt, or Kidley/Ennis combos? I still haven't seen Witt play, but they reckon at Parra he would make a fair first grade No7, I think the club got him here to cover the no Johns scenario during the rep games, so you wouild think the logical thing to do is give him a go at it, I still wouldn't be opposed to the Ennis idea, I think once Ennis settled in he could do a great job for us, just not sure about Tyrie, a couple of years ago I thought he was going to be the next First grade Half, but I'm not sure now, he definately hasn't stood out for the last couple of seasons.
To be honest - I think they have a lot of options, some good, some bad.
Tyrie could produce - but it would be a big risk.
Witt is a poor defender from all accounts.
Kidley has proven himself at half and 5/8 - he has to be the main guy whichever spot he ends up filling.
Fitzgerald will play 5/8 like Rudder used to - which might be a good thing.
Ennis can't be expected to take on a huge role in his first starting game - same for Witt and Tyrie I suppose.
At the moment I'm thinking Kidley and Fitzgerald - they would defend really well and should be the best chance to keep their heads because they have 10 times the experience of any other combination. I would have Ennis on the bench and either he or Fitz could relieve Bedsy if we needed to rest him.

i'm really sorry but Fitz isn't a 5/8. he wasn't one at Souths - he isn't one at the Knights.

Its not his fault that the club he is at can't see his talent.

I am sure that given the opportunity at Newcastle he would take it with both hands and the Witt boys would be a great combination!

Ahhh what's one more gonna do? seriously.. it's not like it's a crime or anything, it won't hurt.

It's not like his club care if he is there or not, I mean if they did would he still be in premier league? I don't think so!

roopy, wouldnt u agree that the reason rudder and johsn were a 'succesful' combo was because rudder didnt attempt to take over and was a passenger in the standoff role, with kidley at half he cant carry a 5/8 that doesnt have any ability the way that johns could, while wed be solid in defence wed give up a lot in attack, but i do agree they are more experienced adn fitzgerald does have a combo with richo

You can be assured that Matt Orford will want to come " home " to the NSW Central Coast if given half a chance ( pardon the pun ).

He grew up on the Central Coast, gets back here all the time, and if it is driving 40 minutes up the F3 to play in Newcastle, or potentially being the first captain of the Central Coast Bears in 2006, there is a major chance he will return to the area and play for either the Bears or Knights.

Melbourne are kidding themselves if they think that lure of coming " home " isnt a realistic one.

He only left to start with because he had to for an opportunity.

He's been moving between 5/8 and hooker in Premier league. The only reason for that would be those are the positions he might play in the top grade.

I'd like to see us start the game with Fitz at 5/8 and Ennis on the bench.

I think our season now depends on Bedsy so much that we have to give him as much time off the field as possible, so I'd like to see Bedsy come off after 60 minutes and have Ennis and Fitz alternate between hooker and 5/8 for the last 20 minutes or so - because I think Ennis is the guy we want at 5/8 in the future, but it is unrealistic to have a Kidley/Ennis combo in Ennis' first starting game - he should be eased in.
