Maybe because they have been caught out lying ....straight out lying ...many times .so when regional figures suddenly jump to levels that are near RL regional figures ...I'm suspicious .they don't have the Regional following like RL does .
Yet suddenly in the finals ...not through the year ...they get huge regional numbers .

there is considerable overlap in the postcodes listed as being sampled. So, do you have regions that have boxes from the 2 organisations, each counting their own?

That used to be the case so they actually reduced the ratings figures to account for any possible double counting.

But anyone who has every conducted a market research sample know what's involved - these types of errors are almost negligible - you're talking 0.1 to 0.2% error - pretty much statistically insignificant.

Some people with a pro-AFL agenda like to make out that AFL is by far the most popular sport in the country. It just doesn't reflect in the TV ratings though. Sure, AFL is better at getting members to attend matches but that's only one metric.

You look at the ratings between the two codes though, historically the biggest difference in viewing audience for the grand final has been about 15% - just the selection of teams in the match alone can account for that difference. In the past few years not just the NRL Grand Final but also Origin has outrated the AFL Grand Final.

NRL fans seem realistic that their sport is pretty much on par with AFL - probably give or take +/- 10% but some AFL fans simply can't stand the idea.
