Well then, we signed a winger/attacking mid for a British transfer record, and we play a formation without wingers and already have an established international star in the attacking mid position. Obviously LVG has some idea what to do with him. He's not going to tell the board to go ahead with shelling out 60 million quid for no good reason. Be interesting to see what it is.

I would go 433 and put Shaw Evans Smalling Jones at the back, Blind as a holding mid with Di Maria and Herrera as attacking mids in front, then Rooney, RVP, and Falcao upfront.

Then we have good cover from youngsters to back them up.

Don't know what happens to Mata. I'm sure LVG can think of something.

Juan the odd man out again? Can't say I'm surprised unless he's played centrally he doesn't seem to be able to play himself into the game.

When Mata joined us he stood out like a sore thumb, mainly because we had been severely lacking creativity in the team for the previous 18 odd months.
Problem was he was drifting in and out of matches because we were not using him correctly out wide. Much like he was last season under Moyes.

The problem is the Premier league is often played at breakneck pace, he does not have the pace to create problems out wide in England. It was purely his overall quality on the ball which made his contribute at times under AVB. It was clear very early on that playing him centrally was the key but AVB was so rigid in 433 this didn't really happen. Often when we were chasing a game with 20mins to go , AVB would move him centrally to affect the game much more.

RDM took over and moved him centrally straight away and the player we loved for 18 months was born.

If you can't get him to contribute by playing in the 10 slot I imagine he'll be on the bench a bit. When he plays as a wide man, he is half the player he is through the middle.

Rojo will get his chance. Evans has hardly played for a while though.

He has played in the centre this year and is doing very little.

I think he is not athletic enough for a lvg team sadly.

Not sure about RVP at the most. I think he will lose his place in the near future.

I hope we don't go back to a back 3. It may be useful in an emergency but 433/442 diamond looked so much better.

Mata did a lot better to, with a solid midfield who can run a bit behind him.

I'm glad rvp has woken up. He can actually play football again!!


We have been bad the last few games, but an away win at le arse, saints and home vs the scousers is a rather nice result though.

Today we may have been in trouble but they were toothless upfront. We aren't. For all the talk in football about tactics and formations, sometimes just having bloody good forwards can get you through.

Plus we are having to play 5 at the back as we have no fullbacks.
5 at the back sucks. We get our defence back, throw in Di Maria for sh*ts and giggles and we are set of a better 2015.
