Thanks for that info gents. I would never have guessed that for mine.

Here's a little something I found on the whale issue. I think both Atilla and legend may be on the money;
There are many theories as to why whales beach themselves. Some have been found to do so because they are sick, having an inner ear infection. It is thought that when this occurs to a leader of the pod, the others may follow it to the beach out of sheer "loyalty". Many beachings take place where geomagnetic anomolies occur. In these areas, the earth's magnetic force lines are abnormal, which may confuse whales that use the magnetic force lines for navigation. Beachings have often occured when the tide is at its most extreme and in areas where the beach is gradually sloping.. Because the beach slopes gradually, the sound waves used to detect prey and distance may dissipate and therefore wouldn't bounce back to them, giving an appearance that they are in open water and there is no danger of being stranded. Whales may chase their prey into these shallow waters, unaware that the tide is going to recede quickly, leaving them stranded. Beachings also occasionally occur in these areas during or after severe storms. There is no concrete answer why whales beach themselves. It can be because of one or a number of reasons mentioned above.
There have been numerous attempts to save beached whales. Whether or not they should be saved depends on the condition of the animal and the circumstances (whether there are other healthy animals involved, etc). In the case of sick animals, nature may just be taking its course

If someone tells you that everything they say is a lie, do you believe them? or do you assume they are lieing? so therefore may be telling the truth?

Quite often people may say "I'm as happy as Larry" or "he's as happy as Larry" or any numerous cobinations of someone or something being 'as happy as Larry'.

So who the hell was Larry and why was he so bloody happy?

Many thanks for your help El Duque

Here's another: Why is it that you nearly always see one shoe only by the side of the road? Where is the matching one?

Roopy - Id assuming they were telling the truth

B-FanBaller - Im going to say shoe tossing is usually a drunk mans activity, hence the stupidity in keeping one shoe and losing the other. As they can't remember what happened the day after, the shoe usually remains lost

For one thing, the scrum allows for the back line to put on movements while the forwards have a bludge.

OK, I have a question...is it true that it sometimes rains withfish and frogs? And who has witnessed such a thing????

El Duque:
Saw it on a doco? They were 'small fish', and they were 'somewhere in England'.
Until I get an eye witness report...I'll keep calling it an urban myth.

Actually, or apparently, the American flag and the way in which it is handled and represented is a very delicate issue I've heard in the past.

I have a question on the American flag issue also:

When the US flag is folded at various ceremonies (usually signally death I presume), I've heard in the past that each fold represents a partcular period or symbol of some type. Anyone have any idea as to exactly what that may represent?

The flag's colours were decided by the Continental Congress. These were times prior to the formation of the USA.
The Continental Congress left no record to show why it chose the colors. However, in 1782, the Congress of the Confederation chose these same colors for the Great Seal of the United States and made list of the meanings.

Whitemeans purity and innocence, redmeans valor and hardiness, and blueis forvigilance, perseverance, and justice. According to legend (not our Legend), George Washington interpreted the elements of the flag this way: the stars were taken from the sky, the red from the British colors, and the white stripes signified the secession from the home country.

However, there is no official designation or meaning for the colors of the flag.

Betsy Rosssewed upthe first flag which is very similar to the modern flag of USA except back then, there were a circle of stars, 13 I think, instead of the 50+ which exist today. Francis Hopkinson is credited with designing the flag although this is open to debate.

Although I can't answer Warlock's question, I think I may have found the answer to your question Raidpatch.

Here 'tis ::

EACH FOLD OF THE US FLAG REPRESENTS:
The first fold our our flag is a symbol of life.
The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.
The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks who gave a porion of life for the defense of our country to attain a peace throughout the world.
The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidance.
The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "our county, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right of wrong,"
The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces , for it is through the Armed Forces that we protecet our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.
The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it filies on Mother's Day.
The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty , and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded.
The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.
The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomo, and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
The twelth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.
When the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, "In God we trust."
After the flag is completetly folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and the sailors and marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.
