After a tense eighty minutes when the scoreboard can't separate the teams then maybe, just maybe they both deserve to walk away with a point rather than playing extra time and possibly losing due to the whim of a referee or the bounce of the ball.

after watching the newcastle v manly game at the weekend i touted the "golden point for ESL" on RLFANS.....and was promtly shot down...but they know nothing...
but maybe it's the aussies attitude of "winnner takes all" that gives then an advantage over us...maybe thats why they won the 2003 ashes 3-0 instead of losing it 3-0
surely if a team can come back from 20-0 to tie 20-20 they, and the other team, deserve an extra 10 mins to decide it??
bring in the golden point in ASAP........

deluded pom? said:The difference is that obviously the decisions mentioned haven't separated the two sides over eighty minutes so why should there be an extra period of play until one or other of the teams score? How would you feel if the Eels not only lost a lead to some dodgy decisions/ bad luck but then went on to lose the game in overtime due to more of the same? I don't imagine for one minute that you sit there and say how thoroughly deserved the winners were. You'd be kicking the nearest cat. What about the scenario whereby a team's whole season can rest on winning/or losing games in overtime that they otherwise wouldn't have won or lost? Again I bet you wouldn't sit there, if after the Eels have missed out on the playoffs because they didn't get a point from a draw that they otherwise would have done, and applaud the winners. For me the golden point is a very American thing. Just like in the '70's when they messed around with soccer rules and had the "shootout" after a drawn ninety minutes. Sometimes games are very even. Why can't that just be allowed to happen?

What exactly is this? Is it just when a team late in the game (or half) takes a drop goal from open play, earning 1 point (in RL)?...
You can not take drop goals in European Rugby League? Sorry if this sounds stupid, but my only RL exposure is from the southern hemisphere (NRL and State of Origin...), it is the only thing on TV in the states, or at least, it used to be on TV... now we get bloody nothing!!!>?JP@IE$U*)@(&_)!@()!)(#&!)
