NRL to buy share of Super League

In 1997 Australian rugby league had teams in Perth, Adelaide & two Brisbane clubs. What everybody forgets is UK & Australian superleague had same branding and teams from both hemispheres played each other in competition. The game is slowly working it's way back to this point and it should be goal. Doing it in a much more organic manner, where strong heartland is base for expansion.

There has also been a conscious effort to help the game in England, by adding two English teams to this year’s Las Vegas venture and reviving season-ending Kangaroos tours to Great Britain. However, the Super League continues to struggle financially, prompting questions about whether the NRL would be prepared to purchase the competition.

“Never say never,” V’landys said. “That’s if they want us. The first thing is there’s always two people to an agreement. If they want us, we’ll certainly look at it.
“If they approached us, we’d certainly look at it. At this stage they haven’t approached us, but we’re a firm believer in having a strong game in England and we’re a firm believer in the international game

“You can’t have an international game without England.”
V’landys said suggestions the game was making a large loss by taking season-opening games to Vegas were off the mark.
“And let me dispel something that’s out there in the marketplace that’s very incorrect, and that is it costs us a lot of money for Vegas,” he said.
“This year there’s a possibility that we’ll actually return a profit on the Vegas venture. And if not, it’ll be a small loss.

Games are on around 7 to 8 am Friday to Sunday mornings I watch like 20 or 30 mins

Vegas should help get more viewers to super league here and vice versa there

Today on SEN sport, they we're discussing about how to incorporate Super League into Australian TV viewers. One thing that was suggested, is to televise a live game ( 12 noon UK time) so it can be watch in Australia at a reasonable evening time.

Not a bad idea.
Only Sunday evening (at least until 2027/2-28) that is game time free on a weekend on Fox?

A better way would be to pair NRL clubs with SL clubs and encourage fans of both clubs to support the other one. If you want to get people watching something they have to have emotional buy in. Could also then share business practices, comms practices, fan engagement ideas etc between clubs. Even having Jnr swaps or pre season games etc between the two twinned clubs.

Id suggest a growing number of people watch sport on delay now rather than live so getting them interested in SL is the key.

If super league could help nrl fill in time slots that aren’t used much by Aussie clubs then sure Fox would pay for that

Maybe not a lot in pounds but ten million pa is nothing for Foxsports

Yes the only way we are going to get Aussie fan buy-in to Super League is by seeing games live, on replay won`t cut it until people start to get attached to a club.
Funny enough it could be like NSWRL coverage was, one full game per week (on the ABC) and basically a highlights package on 9/10 whoever it was. Enough to start to get fan buy-in, at least initially.
