I thought Malice was quite good. Very Hitchcock like with a god red herring thrown in.

Vertigo by Hitchcock is probably the ultimate mystery movie.

But if you prefer something more modern:

Gone Baby Gone is great.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo if you haven't seen it - the Swedish version
Gosford Park - one I haven't seen but is on the list. Sounds like a classic murder mystery.
LA Confidential

Arlington Road - 1999, starring Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins is an awesome mystery / thriller, well worth a look.

Marathon Man - 1976, Dustin Hoffman, Lawrence Olivier, Roy Schieder.
Some unforgettable scenes in this and great performances all round.

Out Of The Past - 1947, Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer, Kirk Douglas.
Absolute classic film noir mystery, thriller. If you liked LA Confidential you should like this. Kirk Douglas is at his best in this, just a pleasure to watch.

Agree with the Hitchcock choices, especially Rear Window and the original 39 Steps. A lot of the old film noir stuff with Bogey and the like are usually good value too like The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep.

I actually thought that the American version was a better movie tbh. Not that the Swedish was bad but there was extra polish to the American version that made it stand out for me (obviously had a bigger budget). I've watched the Swedish trilogy and enjoyed it, would recommend both versions.
