Rudy - american football - college

Have you read the actual story of Rudy? Rudy himself actually wrote the book and the screenplay himself, and basically made the whole thing up out of whole cloth about all the people telling him he couldn't do it, the coach hating him (it was the coach's idea to let him play) and all the players ceremoniously handing in their jerseys if Rudy didn't get to play.

Knowing the full story kind of takes the bloom off the rose for the movie for me, particularly as he wrote the screenplay himself so clearly tried to paint himself as the hero going against impossible odds instead of the determined and committed training squad member who was rewarded for his effort by a top coach putting him in a game.

Saw a doco on ESPN a while ago.
It was called "The Streak".
It's about a high school wrestling team that hadn't lost in years (can't remember how long but it was at least a couple of generations).
The pressure on this team to not lose was unbelievable. One of the best docos I've seen.

Sports Doco's

Beyond the Mat - a behind the scenes look at the lives of well known pro wrestlers (from memory Jake Roberts and Mick Foley were the main two)
Another Bloody Sunday - almost a comedy this. A doco on the Doncaster RL team in England and its struggle for relevance as it creeps towards breaking the record for the longest streak without a win in Worldwide RL History. (the entire doco is on youtube in 3 or 4 parts I think)

The best ever has to be A League Of Their Own, IMO. Not in a million, trillion years could I ever enjoy another film about a sport I don't give a shit about being played by friggin' women.

Even if you don't think it's the best outright, it's gotta win on handicap surely. IMO Tom Hanks' best ever performance. The original Dugan!!!
