Well, it's taken me a while to reply to this thread, I guess I was just so shocked that Peach is actually going. I too hardly remember the days when Peach wasn't our fullback. 2006 is going to be a strange year.

My best memmory of Peach, is probably just the excitement I felt every time a team kicked towards him. Back in the days of Peach, Barnett and Rogers at the back, we could cut team to shreds on the counter. I wish he'd put out a dvd, I'd pay hundreds to see his career highlights. The bloke is easily my all time favoutie player. But the fact that he is such a good bloke makes me just as proud. The fact he was flying to the bush to do coaching clinics every wednesday, for years, with no want for recognition just sums him up.

I hope he has a great year for Widnes next season. I admit they are not one of my favourite clubs, but I really hope they can get back up to Super League, so that the skills of the Peach can be shown off in Europe, and not hidden away in English National League 1.

A fitting farewell, an emotional goodbye. well done.

The Peach seems to have settled in well at Widnes. We played a pre season friendly on boxing day against arch enemies Warrington who will be in SL in 06. We had about 80% of our best team out and they had about 65% so the win was a decent one.

At one point in the second half they put a grubber in towards the sticks and with 3 Warrington players closing in on it it looked like only a fumble could prevent a try. Enter the Peach stage left at full speed and a one handed pick up topping it off with beating the first man and making 15 metres.

He went to the play the ball a few times and directed play. To be fair he doesn't look 100% fit yet but it is 6 weeks to the start of the season and the season is started off by 6 games in a low key comp before the league starts.

Out of interest we have a couple of ex internationals at teh end of their career Terry O'Connor and Mick Cassidy and 2 other Aussies in Ryan Tandy and Aaron Summers.

The Peach, ET and Sludge all shared that same off field decency that few legends seem to retain and thats what makes them the revered people they are and were.

we have been truly blessed at this club to have had those 3 special people with all their amazing attributes and outstanding loyalty!

Funnily enough this was posted on the Widnes messageboard a few hours after I put the above on......

Posted: Sat Jan 07, 2006 1:11 pm Post subject: david peachey much has been said and written about the qualities of the man on and off the pitch. at 11.30am on a cold saturday morning the chap gave his time out to turn up at moorfield and meet the kids training and pose for his picture to be taken also.

most of last seasons overseas players would just be making swift exits from peoples houses or waking up in hedges and shaking off the hangover at this time.

The Peach is the real deal. Cheers to him and also to Pat Cluskey for sorting it out. Made some kids really happy!!!

Vikings' fullback David Peachey will miss this weekend's clash at the Halliwell Jones Stadium due to a family bereavement.

The former Cronulla star flew out of Manchester Airport this morning following the death of a close family member at the weekend.

The funeral takes place on Friday with David due back in the Country next Tuesday.

The Club's thoughts and sympathies are with David and his family at this time

My favourite Peach memory is of Peach the man, not the player. A few years, my dancing school put on a fundraising display in the mall, where all the dancers performed. The display took place on the same day the Sharks were to play the Cowboys at Dairy Farmers. I could see this man watching me perform but I didnt pay particular attention until after the display was finished. It turned out this man was Peach himself. Being a huge Sharks fan I naturally freaked and ran over and asked him for his autograph. He was so humbling, he wanted to know all about my dancing and about me. There was no pretence with him, even though he could see that I was in total awe of him. He even waited around while I went and bought a disposable camera so I could capture the momen. He took the time to learn my name and treated me like a friend not just a crazy fan. After the game, I went to met the other players. Peach saw me and called me by name, introducing me to his family. Every year since I have gone to met the players, and every year he has remembered my name and greeted me like a friend. He is not just a great player but an amazing man. He will forever be my hero, and the heart and soul of the Cronulla Sharks. I am so devasted he is not with us any more, but his impact on the club will remain forever. Thanks for the memories Peach, and thanks for being my hero....

Nice story & typical of the Peach.
it makes you cringe at the dispicable nature of some Sharks fans over the last 2 years who continually ridiculed our best player.

Peach will always remain a great player, and by the sounds of it a great bloke too. My memory of Peach is one that really it)- mid 1990s semi-final vs Manly. Peach drops a bomb at a crucial time and receives an arrogant, stirring pat on the head from John Hopoate as if to say thanks. Not once did Peach even try to fight. Such grace and humility.
In full flight David Peachey was quite simply not just one of the best footballers of all time, but one of Australia's greatest ever athletes. He did things others simply couldn't do - he seemed to float across the field and you always felt when he wanted to break a game open he could. He always seemed to be able to break a smile, no matter what the situation, and despite this you knew he was always giving his 100% This was Peach's greatest quality IMO - no matter what the situation he was always trying his hardest, with a big smile on his dial.
David Peachey - A true champion
