Gould's Whinge In The SMH....

The fact that Gould made the statement, indicates the old SL /ARL agenda is still hanging around him like a bad smell. He had a shot at Tallis for an alleged amount of $600,000 etc,,maybe the reported $800,000 pa he got for staying with the ARL as per some newspaper reports was quickly forgotten.
Tallis is there purely as a player, who is prepared to say it as he thinks and is there to add as a players perspective. He is not on the policy making board as to the number of teams etc.Wayne Bennett is not an idiot, nor are the part owners of the broncs News Lltd, they must see potential or examples.
I would rather Tallis on the board than someone who continually bitches on about everything and everything, usually with the ogre of SL in the background.
Anyone who throws a tanty a couple of minutes before full time in a SOO series such as at Suncorp went down a peg IMO.
The day I agree with Gould on many things, then i know I have a problem.

I guess there's two issues here.

One being Gould using his article to have a stab at Tallis which I think the majority agree on.

The other, far more important, issue of whether or not the apointment of Tallis to the NRL board was a wise one.

Again I feel the majority believfe it was not.

Tallis sat opposite, staring at me with what appeared to be a very untrusting look

So Tallis has already shown he ahs some idea about reading people accurately.

That won't hurt when sitting on the board.

Look, I had concerns with a player coming in at a level of administration that needed bussiness people at the helm. The difference was....I didnt have a chip on my shoulder, a score to settle or an agenda.

When I started reading this article I knew the old ARL story would get a run. Its just pathetic. His value as a commentator on the game is long gone.

My thoughts exactly.

There is founded concerns when we look at appointing a player fresh from the field into an important role on the NRL board where decisions are made about the future of the game.

Is Tallis qualified? I can hardly comment, I am not sure of his educational background. Though he is a passionate League man respected throughout the League fraternity and known as one to "shoot straight from the hip".

Was the appointment the right move? Maybe not, though I will give him a chance to prove me wrong.

Personally, I have alot of time for Phil Gould's thoughts on the game, though as a reader of his colum in the SMH, it is a love-hate relationship. Some opinions I agree with (e.g. the BS that was Super League), some opinions I dont (e.g. The need to bump the salary cap). Alot of his articles are written with a hidden agenda, over time I have to come to accept that as he can be entertaining, thought provoking and far better value than any one of the 3 Amigo's from the Daily Telegraph (Bec Wilson, Paul Kent and Dean Ritchie).

This article was a partly a pot shot at Tallis and Gould here used his column to square up the ledger perhaps for Tallis's comments about Gould when he walked off in game 2 of Origin... :?: Who knows, who cares, as long as you feel better now Gus in which can perhaps committ 100% to next weeks article. ;-)

Interesting that Arko approves of the appointment, but pans that of Page.

http://smh.com.au/news/League/Ill-b...erbroker-Tallis/2005/01/22/1106334265495.html

Meanwhile, former ARL boss Ken Arthurson has slammed the NRL's appointment of Page, claiming it was a public relations exercise.

Arthurson, who backed Tallis's elevation to the board, said the nomination of Page was a clear reaction to a recommendation in the NRL's $1 million report last year that women should play a greater role in running the game.

"I'm not being critical of her," he said. "She's obviously a capable woman. But whether she's the best person for the job or not is another thing altogether. If a board happens to be made up of just men, then so be it. That's how it is."

Agree II. This is the same dinosaur with the head-in-the-sand attitude that provided the fertile ground for Super League to take root. Someone put him out to pasture please.

It's funny, melon seems to be getting more immature in his responses these days. He's run out of facts and constructive arguments, and now resorts to name calling and lame attempts at telling people what to do.

Arko is also wanker.

We discredit Gould because he is a voice of discredit to league. He always causes harm throughout the media. He is a Grade 'A' wanker and a stain on the game.

A bit rich coming from a fan of a club that has discredited the game repeatedly in the last few years.

Unlike your Dirty Cheating Filthy Lying club, I call it as it is. Legend is being dumb. This thread is dumb. If you cant see that then I suggest you stand next to Malcolm "In the Middle" Noad and repeast "We didnt know...We didnt know".

What if he was the ARL candidate? I believe they get three each don't they?

They do but I would hope that they would choose the best candidate for the job.

If they chose Freddie it would be nothing more than tokenism.

In all honesty Legend do you think Tallis is the best choice?

Legend said this:

IMO, Gordie is not qualified to be on the NRL board, I was more taking issues with Gould's rant and hypocrisy.

KFC, I answered your question in the preceding post where you asked the question but they were only a couple of minutes apart so you may have missed it. No harm done.

Why am I being dumb Melon? I gave my opinion and anyone who thinks Arko has integrity should think again. There is a thread with many stories about Super League and Arko was certainly not the Knight in shining armour everyone thinks he was. In fact, he was one of the main causes, along with John Quayle and their fondness for clubs like Manly and the Roosters.

He has even been quoted a number of times over the years as saying that my comments had inspired him to do better and all he'd wanted to do was prove me wrong.

He has also been quick to give it to me in the media any time he gets a chance. I guess he sees that as some form of getting square.

Sterling: Now if we freeze the article here on the bundy rum telestrator we will see gould is dummying to the NRL appointment commitee, this draws in the reader and then with a sharpe right foot step singles out Gordon Tallis and hits him with a stiff arm... silly play really, any smart reader would see right through this move.

Vautin: Tallis will have a few things to say to that bloke in the sheads after the game

Rabs: I dont doubt that paul.

If arko didnt have intergrity manly would have gone to super league and sured up our future like the SL clubs in sydney did.

Its ludicrous that u would even say quayle and arko were the cause of super league

PAYTV was the sole cause of super league i cant believe people still buy this BS about the war being over different opinions of what is good for the game.

PAYTV rights packer had them Rupert wanted them.
Packer said NO NO NO Rupert said stuff you i will start my own comp.

Ribot, Oconner, Neil, Big Mal, Bullfrog, Brisbane and Canberra werent running the show they were puppets for News.
