Excelletn point. I was thinking exactly the same thing. Fittler has no education and has played footy his whole life but I'd bet my last dollar he'd be applauding the appointment of Fittler as a move in the right direction as he would be a person with the players ear and their man on the ground when it comes to player issues. How is Tallis any different?

Just another way to fill space by Gould, who is letting hatred blind his ambition of following in the steps of the elephant man.

your statement means jack shit because Fittler wasn't appointed and I don't think he'd want the job - Go Gus a good article - Tallis all he could do is tackle his opposers across a board room table.

Geez nearly everyone i heard on talk back was against his appointment.

Why not Butterfield - surely as the Players rep he'd be better on the bard

IMO, Gordie is not qualified to be on the NRL board, I was more taking issues with Gould's rant and hypocrisy. I mean, why would he have Stuart, the biggest SL fish of them all coaching the Roosters? I think he is two faced and employs more double standards than anyone esle involved in the game.

He has a massive chip on his shoulder and if he is still harbouring resentment and animosity over the SL war, he should not be anywhere near the game. It seems his employers, channel nine and Nick Politis have moved on. Why can't he?

hmm I though Politis hired Stuart not Gould...after all the club pays his wages. If Gould did then your arguement is again dead in the water - it means he hasn't got a problem with SL just the fools that are on the Board and let's face it there are some idiiots - like Tallis

nospam49 you are a sad C. Why??? Because even Im not a fan of Goulds, but I dont go out of the way to analyse every word he mutters just to discredit him.

Get a life you wankas....lets get over the Gould thing FFS. *edited*

Gould is the one who keeps writing garbage which we're supposed to believe is positive opinion on the game.

He is the biggest blot on the game at the moment and the only person in the "powers that be" who won't let the SL issue rest.

Ozzie, get the blinkers off. If you read everything I said and you obviously didn't and let hatrded blind your judgement, I said I was against the appointment of Tallis.

You see, unlike yourself, I can give an objective opinion about anything without letting personal bias get in the way. You should try it sometime. It's refreshing.

Can you also personally speak for Fittler and say unequivocally he would not accept the position if it was offered?

So Gould had absolutely no input into the hiring of Stuart?

This was probably the first article written by Gould with which I agreed with his main points. How can we expect the game to go forward when meat heads with no business or sports management skills are appointed to the board which is responsible for furthering the game in this country. I cringed when I saw Tallis joking about what he should wear to board meetings. I think peoples hate for Gould is clouding the real issue here.

Why not have someone on the board who knows things from a players point of view? There are 5 others on the board who have the business smarts, why have 6 and then have no one who knows what it's like to be out there on the field? Why have 6 and no one who knows how decisions will effect players and teams?

I'm all for there being a former player on the board, Tallis is it, but I would have been just as much for it if it was some one like Fittler, Lazarus, Coyne ect.

Well I think people can see hes weighted his article negatively against Tallis, with something that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I didnt see where he joked about his attire...... how was it cringe worthy?

Gouls is a total wanker. yes he knows hell of a lot about the game and his record as a coach is good, however I dont recall any time in the past 10 years he's ever said anything positive about rugby league. Even when the roos were trouncing GB in the tri nations final at half time all he did was whinge about "where was this in the previous games"....

as geoff toovey said "it's one comp"

I'm not against having a player on the board, its just that Tallis seems like the worst possible choice. He seems like a nice bloke, but lets be honest, in all likelihood he's as dumb as dogsh*t. It seems as though one position on a fairly small board has been wasted on someone who is going to be sitting at meetings wondering about what he's going to wear to the next meeting. And people wonder why the AFL is lapping rugby league at the moment...

I find it amazing that so many people have such high faith in people just because they run their own business, have a business background, attended a uni course, or have 'managerial experience'.

If Tallis had been in a position of power in the last 15 years ago, some of the decisions/discussions of the past could have gone as such:

Board: why dont we axe some teams and start a super competition.

Tallis: No, it is a stupid idea. Next on the agenda.

or my personal favourite

Board: this is the leading expert in marketing we have just paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars to design this new campain and he has this awesome thomas kenneally poem, it is going to bring in thousands of new fans.

Tallis: (after watching ad) Tell your story walking pal, it is a pile of garbage and we will rerun the simply the best ads until we get something decent.

There are thousands of decisions which have been made without any kind of common sense. Tallis may or may not be any good in the position but dont be surprised if he is.

Good to see we're all sticking to the old ARL / SL lines...

I'm not. I just want Gould to get over it and write something useful for a change.

Fantastic choice - Not

He would threaten that the players will boycott Origin or the GF, just like he threatened to boycott the Dally M's two years ago when things weren't going his way.

The players had to do something to get the collective agreement off the ground - shame the NRL overreacted and canned it without negotiation or, better yet, actually entering the agreement in good faith.

Thank god both sides moved on from there.

That would be talkback radio in NSW rallying against Gordon Tallis - what a surprise
