Grand Final Day - One game only ?

I'm pretty sure there is no curtain raiser / lower grade games played at the MCG on AFL GF day - but has this always been the case ?

Including back in the VFL days ?

Does anyone think the NRL GF will end up as a 'stand alone' event like the AFL GF ? Pros and Cons ?

Yes, use to like getting on early on GF days to watch the Presidents Cup and then the reserves. Its all about the build up the the main game. Having a stand alone game just seems wrong.

NRL is a night game, plenty of time for a few games before.
AFL traditions is drink and barbie before, not watch junior games.
