Grand final earned us over $1m - Paul Osborne

By James Phelps | October 29, 2009 11:00pm

PARRAMATTA CEO Paul Osborne has revealed the Eels' success in 2009 has been worth over $1 million to the club. Since storming into the Grand Final and capturing rugby league hearts across the country, the Eels have been awash in potential sponsors eager to get involved with the club next year.

The Eels have already snared two new sponsors for 2010 - Prize Fight and Body Science - and Osborne said he is in negotiations with many more.

"The interest has been incredible,'' Osborne said. "We have just signed Prize Fight, who will be on our training gear and maybe our goal posts, and Body Science have also come on board. If I had to put a price on how much our success this year has netted us, I would have to say about $1 million when you add up sponsors and merchandise.''

Things are looking up for the Eels, with boom recruits Justin Poore, Timana Tahu, and Shane Shackleton set to join the club next month when they start pre-season work for another assault on the crown.

Agreed Gronk, it's a great point.

Bit like Benji for the Tigers, in that sponsors and kids are drawn to him.

Amazing what a difference winning some games makes.

sure, bhut you also cant discount the feel good factor that started to emerge just prior to the winning streak.

Not only we're now winning on field, but also seen to be heading places off it.

but I thought the sponsors were already there after the board got rid of DF.

Clearly new sponsors got a boner when we started winning, Jazz emerged as the No.1 NRL player and clean living players like Morts, Hindy, Joel, Caylo & Fui lead the team on and off the field - not because we got a few new heads in the front office.

Having said that, the clean out didn't hurt. As a brand, we're obviously an attractive proposition now that the GEC is eased.

Global Exagerated Crisis? :lol:
Giant Election Crap? :lol::lol:

Not having anymore press stories about how we are going broke etc may help as well.

Great news, and gotta agree with Gronk. Hayne has played a massive part of this. Helps having a coach with a clue as well.
