What school was responsible for the prematch entertainment???
Was it a sixth class project...:sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:
or did someone actually get paid for it
Are those crap bands really necessary???

Me, I'd prefer to watch a game of footy between promising kids----or a goal kicking competition.....or a football team relay....
ANYTHING but the crap that was served up yesterday....

From the Sydney Morning Herald website....

The villain

Pre-match entertainment - What a fabulous spectacle. Smoking barbecues. Flag waving. Inflatable hands. Utes. Fireworks in broad daylight. A band who had their last hit when it was fashionable to roll the bottom of your jeans and another from Melbourne. Not since Nikki Webster magically flew in the air at the Sydney Olympics have we seen anything like it. Of course, we're being sarcastic.

while it was kinda tacky (but lets be honest, pretty much all pre-GF entertainment always is) - i thought it actually had some meaning: taken back to the days of daylight GFs where ppl had BBQs

was there ever really a GF that had pre match entertainment that wasn't kinda cheap/tacky?

I have to say I loved it. I thought it SHAT all over the AFL entertainment, was good to get back to the Roots of Grand Final day for all those that complained about not being able to have a BBQ. I really enjoyed it.

It was actually better at the ground as they also told you the reason why they were doing it instead of Channel 9's Pre-match Hype.(yeah I have recorded it and watch it back this morning. It was all about "Taking you back" to the tradition of the Grand Final, supporters, BBQ and watching the big game with the Kids. They showed on the big screen during the performance highlights from grand finals past and I think it went down quite well. Then the Living End were quite good and spanned generations because they played some good down to earth rock which everyone could tap their feet to.

The Footy team relay was at half time but of course Nine would not have covered that. They also had a race between two sets of fans with Giant inflatable balls being pushed around a course made up of inflated pillars sporting the flags of the nations competing at the World Cup. The Winning Team (Melbourne) won 4 tickets to the World Cup opening ceremony.

GF entertainment was useful when we had to cue up outside the SCG at 2.00am and wait for the gates to open at 7.00am. Entertainment used to start around 9.00am and keep on going all day during the breaks.

These days it's all a bit of a waste of time for me. Bring back the CIG (?) sprints, sky divers and Grand Final parade.

They were the right band for the day, definitely.

Something to interest younger ones based on current popularity, with a long enough history to be able to also keep the interest of people with a memory of music from 10 years before, and in a style that can be appreciated by people even older. Anything else would have alienated more people in some way.

And nothing evokes the spirit of daytime grand finals to me than some aussie rock'n'roll music.

I thought they stopped that after 2006 when one landed outside the stadium, another landed on the roof and a third one nearly killed himself landing in the stadium.....
yeah - but how entertaining is watching skydivers spray all over hombush!

Yea there were some incidents that stopped that.

How about just putting some good entertainers out there. We dont need the half arsed thematic stories. The BBQ thing was cringeful in the extreme, apart from that it wasnt bad.

- Warlow was top notch.
- Living end were fine, however tacked on the fire was.
- John Stevens was fine.

Ofcourse it had to be ruined by people going for too much, its an NRL tradition.

Just 'entertain' people it isnt meant to be burnt into our memory for 50 years...

I thought it looked very mediocre... especially the out of time girls bashing the BBQ lids

total rip off of Beijing, with 1/8th of the timing

they did a good job miming, thats for sure.

Lol....that was a sync issue between the sound and picture...unless he mimed when he spoke to the crowd too :p

That said, poor TLE have gone a long way downhill :(

Well the purple wiggle was there - actually 17 of them wearing Storm jerseys.

"Wake up Jeff" the crowd and Bellamy yelled, but it wasn't to be...

My personal belief is that when it comes to sporting entertainment the NRL could learn a lot from the movie Baseketball.

Bloody hell.... we asked for something different and we got it
Live bands are necessary IMO and just because they are not to EVERYONE'S taste doesn't mean they are unnecessary.
There was a football team relay....
Whinge whinge whinge complain complain complain
