Great Canterbury v Parramatta clashes

So many, where does one start? The 1980's was a great time for both clubs, where rivlaries such as Mortimer v Sterling ignited one of the fiercest club games of all time.

That said, for mine my favourite Dogs v Eels game was in 1998. Let me set the scene:

Location: SFS
Time: 4:30
Score: 18-2 Parramatta
Time Left: 10 Minutes

Enter Polla-Mounter,Silva and the genius:

The ground was starting to empty. Eels fans were giving it deluxe to us dogs fans behind the posts. But did I leave on that fateful semi-final day? No

The rest as they say in the classics is history. Carige handed us the game and the great Polla-Mounter played his finest game ever that day. I will never ever forget going to that game, it just reminds you why it is so much better at the venue

That game is by far the best I have seen between the two clubs. What a great day. the team went on with it in extra time and ended up killing the eels.

what players; travis norton, craig polla mounter, willie talau, 'rocket' rod silva, daryl halligan, a young corey hughes.

does anyone have the full team list for that day? There were the kmart kids (hughes) and some others playing for peanuts. I think matt ryan was still playing, darren britt. totally different side to today.

wouldnt mind watching that game again :D

maybe tonights game will be as exciting.

The 80's were great, bar 84 I beleive (correct me if I got the year wrong) when Folkes and his mates wore the fibreglass shoulder pads.

84 and 85 were especially good, as were 80 and 88.

What bearing did that have on Grand Finalists?

For me 81,82,83 and 86 were far better.

No bearing on the grand final(ists), was it the worse loss (losing margin) in your clubs history?

How can any Parramatta/Canterbury supporter forget the two games in 2001, both teams were both on top of the table and both games went right down to the wire.

First game at Parramatta Stadium was 20 all, it was raining, a bolt of lightning hit the stands, but 20,000 of us didnt care. It was a great clash. Parra were leading, then Bulldogs were leading at half time, the momentum kept swining both sides, then it was all up to Hodgson to put Parra in front.

Then the second game at the Showground, which Parramatta won 24-16, great game. It was almost like the first game, it needed a last minute Vaeliki try to seal victory.

 This is where it gets really sad, Parra fans think it was them who got the biggest loss.

Newsflash - Saints and Easts both did us in 1935 - 91-6 and 87-7 respectively.

The 2002 game was great also IIRC. I believe it went down to the wire and it was the night before the Cap Scandal came to light.

im silly hehe

how about simon gillies? how good was he? i think mitch newton had left by that time...though i could be wrong. The backline was something like:

1. Silva
2. Halligan
3. Ryan
4. Glen Hughes
5. Lester
6. Polla-Mounter
7. Hughes

what a team!

Not really, Parra were never in the contest.

Dogs won by 20+ that night

Unfortunately you're right, the final score was 28-10, but Bulldogs lead 22-0 at half time.

Simply carved up by Vagana, Utai and Mason.:(

That was also when Jason Robinson came on as replacement referee.

How can you forget Robert Relf Moffo?

He started the comeback. The greatest offload ever given to a flying Rod Silva was the start of the Dogs come from behind victory.

Relfy! The guy who owned the ice-cream shop from memory (maybe still does). Wouldn't ever forget him

How about Robert Tocco! Very underrated

The game at Belmore that they played in a flood in the 90s was memorable as well, although more for the crazy conditions as opposed to anything else. I think the game was won through a scummy kick that went about 2m and the parra guy? regained and scored! (could have the details wrong)

Relfy, the man who attempted the last minute field goal which lead to Carige picking the ball up, kicking ahead and allowing Polla-Mounter an ALMOST record shot
