i dont think hindmarsh has done anything special to be considered a great ambassador, he seems like a bit of dick to me.

What makes Hindmarsh such a great ambassador? The fact that he calls people merkins in full range of a referee's microphone? That he acts like a total dick the whole time he's on the field?

The only reason Hindmarsh is recognisable is because of his mullet and the fact that he shows his arse crack in just about every game, if it wasnt for that he'd be the run of the mill workhorse.

And you guys complain everyone labels Raiders fans as "whingers". You guys are just jealous that Hindy has played over 30 tests and origins and Alan Tongue still sits on there waiting for the rep jersey to come.

The fact Hindmarsh has won the Provans Summons medal for Fans Favourite at the Dally Ms for 4 straight years might have something to with the fact not only is he a good player but he's very popular and likeable. And THAT'S what makes a good ambassador. Keep shooting yourselves in the foot though.

As much as I like Matt Bowen, he's major problem is he can't string half a sentence together.

An ambassador for the modern game should ideally be a superstar - someone we'll look at back and say 'he's going to be remembered as the best from that era or of all time'.

Along with that they should be articulate, charismatic, look normal and stay out of trouble.

There's no one around that meets all these criteria, but there are a bunch of good blokes that the NRL and their clubs need to do more to promote. I pretty well agree with most of the names thrown up.

But whats weird for mine is this: at the moment the most likable and savvy player in the game is Wendell Sailor.

Shame he once walked out on the game for a rival code... and when there lost his contract due to use of illegal recreational drugs. Nice to see him make a good comeback, but great ambassador for RL he is not.

Every single one of which is far more talented than Nathan Flopmarsh, who only gets credited with so many tackles because he's last man in when the player has already been wrapped up. The man is a myth, salivated over by rabid Parramatta fans because God knows they need something to light their dull little lives.

Because nobody rates them apart from you guys. You're jealous because you want Tongue to be picked for Australia and NSW but he never does, so you bag every player that gets selected ahead of him and call them 'over-rated'.

This isn't a thread who the best players are anyway, it's all about being an ambassador. If you don't think Hindmarsh is one of the most popular and likeable PEOPLE who play in the NRL then you should be locked away in a nuthouse.

Oh yeah, and the rivalry between fans of Sydney clubs is a lot stronger than any dislike of Canberra. So fans from the Bulldogs, Manly etc don't sit around and conspire going 'Oh yeah let's vote for Hindmarsh so a Sydney club player will win'. It's the impartial NRL fans that get him votes.

I'm sorry Raider-Haters but i'm going with Tonguey on this one. The way he fought so hard to get into the Raiders top side in 02-03 was inspirational. Now he's captain.

Price dives at peoples legs intentionally and injures them.

Hazem doesn't say much.

Hindy swears at the ref all the time, and says stupid crap on TV. IE: yesterday on the sunday footy show..."I woulda given the ref a gobful!"...there's kids watching Hindy. Don't teach them to give refs a spray from an early age. Also, any guy with his crack hangin out is not an ambassador.

I think I f**ked that first one up, but you obviously got the idea looking at your later post.

As for the second bit...Id take Tongue, Picker, and Harrison over Hindmarsh any day of the week, in all the years ive been watching league, im yet to see what is so special about him other than the fact that he is a workhorse, of which there are plenty in the game.
