We are finally having our first local competition in Greece in 2006. There are 4 teams to kick the season off with players coming from England, Australia, and New Zealand to help out. Yes there will be local base players from Athens who will have a go at league.

The Competiton will run for 4-6 weeks with 2 games per week. The length of the competition will increase over time. It will be fully sponsored by a major company based in Greece.

We will be looking for are development officer to be based in Greece 3-4 months of the year paid by personal sponsors from Australia.

After the competition is completed, an international will follow in Athens. Tme line is Oct/Nov.

More information will be posted on the Greek Rugby League web site in the coming weeks.

Regards

wow! Congratulations.

Where are the teams based? in universities like in lebanon? or will it be a more loosely based set up?

After the first home based international I'll buy myself a greek jersey.

Great development news, the Greeks gave us democracy we now return the complement and give them rugby league .I likes it baby:D
Expect in the near future a certain troll from another code, bagging the fact that Greece doesnt have 10,000 league players or some other huge statistic.

great news, hope all goes well and the code kicks off. i may bag a lot of the sydney based 'countries', but this shows that greece's intentions are in the right place, and hopefully one day we see some local players progress through to the national team.

PW you werent the person I had in mind,it was in fact someone else south of the Qld border.I give compliments on rare occasions mate.;-)
Anycase I am just pleased that an effort is made in the country(Greece),rather than continuing to have an international team residing in Australia for years, and be expected to be taken seriously by the media and public.
Greece,Jamaica,Lebanon,Holland and Germany and Malta are really putting in the new countries, and those responsible deserve the best of recognition and congratulations.
