it's amusing that no one wants to go to Union

i think it's scare tactics from his manager to get the NRL to change their mind on players taking pay cuts to stay

you never know with Inglis though. the guy from Bowraville NSW who wanted to play for Queensland now doesn't want to leave Victoria

nail bang head.

on the news tonight it said there would be no cap concessions for inglis, his entire wage would count towards the cap, unless vlad decides to make him an "ambasdor" for indiginous youth or some junk, i really cant the other clubs agreeing to that though, inglis wont play AFL, bookmark it.

Greg Inglis has a 'chat' with Bombers

ESSENDON chief executive Ian Robson has confirmed the club is interested in signing rugby league superstar Greg Inglis if he decides to switch to the AFL.

Robson met Inglis's manager, Alan Gainey, on Friday in Sydney, with Robson saying the talks were preliminary.

"Greg's an elite athlete and an outstanding talent," he said yesterday on SEN.

"And if ever there was a decision that came out of the Inglis camp that said he was legitimate and serious about wanting to explore a conversation about changing his career path within sport, we would want to be at the front of what I would imagine would be a very long queue.

"There's no offer, it's very preliminary."

Gainey has quashed fears his client was set to follow Israel Folau's lead and abandon the NRL.

The assurance came as the Sunday Herald Sun learned Inglis last week rejected a secret approach from American NFL outfit the Seattle Seahawks.

"The only way Greg would consider AFL is if he was told to leave Melbourne and he became a free agent," Gainey said.

"Greg's prime focus is to stay with the Storm. It's not anything like the situations with Karmichael or Israel Folau, they were off-contract, Greg is not."

AFL ready to put cash into Essendon's bid for Inglis

EXCLUSIVE

THE AFL has pledged to support Essendon's bid to poach rugby league star Greg Inglis with a promotional arrangement similar to those of code-hoppers Israel Folau and Karmichael Hunt.

Essendon chief executive Ian Robson yesterday confirmed he had met Inglis's manager, Al Gainey, in Sydney on Friday to discuss the 23-year-old's plans beyond 2010.

The Melbourne Storm centre's future is uncertain due to the salary-cap penalties imposed on his club but he wants to remain in Melbourne regardless what sport he plays.

Robson said there was no plan to meet Gainey again and discussions were at a "preliminary stage".

Buoyed by the defection of Hunt and Folau, AFL market development manager David Matthews said the league would do all it could to financially entice Inglis to make the leap.

"I don't know Greg and I don't know how well Essendon know him, but he's certainly an enormous indigenous name across New South Wales and Queensland," Matthews told SEN radio.

"If there was capacity for him to do more work in the indigenous field across those two states while he was playing south, it might be something that's attractive.

"If Essendon wanted to chat to us about a potential role for any of their players in helping promote the game, we'd look at it beyond what the normal contracts are.

"We've got an intent down the track to be doing more work with a guy like Nic Naitanui in the Pacific, so we'd be [talking] to West Coast about that."

Hunt, with the Gold Coast, and Folau, with Greater Western Sydney, have contracts worth about $800,000 a season. Most of that is paid as a marketing component.

"We've certainly got some moves, not just to expand into the Pacific, but we want a greater share of indigenous athletes out of New South Wales and Queensland as well," Matthews said. "In the end we're more than happy to chat to any of our clubs and support [an] initiative that they've got."

How is Greg playing for Essendon, a Melbourne club going to help with your indigenous promotion in QLD and NSW?

You need to spit the bullsh*t out of your mouth before you start speaking Mr Matthews. Your actions are tranparent - you see this as another opportunity to kick the NRL.

You have ensured that I will never watch or attend another AFL game. This deliberate attempt to bury the NRL will hurt you more than you realise - the Queenslanders will not appreciate you stealing Greg, they stole him fair and square.

Oh for f**k sake, leave us alone...we don't want to watch your f**king game....it's being shoved down our throats.
How is attempting to destroy a code going to get the AFL more fans?
Seriously enough already.
