Why would England not prefer playing against Japan. Columbia will probably beat England now.

Have you looked at the way the comp has gone? If we don’t think we can beat Colombia we might as well go home now.
Sure Colombia is a harder game than japan but the path looks to be much easier overall.

It's not about Japan - it's the overall strength or perceived strength of each half of the draw

Columbia would be even money to beat England, or close at least

That pretty much sums it up. Colombia are unlikely to have Rodriguez for the game.

And secondly, I can absolutely see us losing that game after this.

And yet we now have our best chance to make a sem final since 1990. So I'm not complaining.
