I still think alot of you are selling Luke Burt short. He was a better support player than Wade. Simply because of his speed and acceleration. I also saw him pull off quite a few great last line of defence tackles. Jarryd did it once and now his last line defence can't be questioned. It takes more than one effort to say that.
once... um oh k
the amazing try saver on campbel.
another one, he came off his wing and takled the supporting winger (for got who it was)
his ankle tap on turner
there are so many more... and burt has more than often proved himself a revolving door in defence.

Hayne V dragons to name another.

Burt will start at fullback you would imagine, the question is how long can he hold out on the young guns.

Atm though you would have to say fullback is Burt's to lose.

How many of those was he playing fullback. The issue is defence at fullback. I think you will find that Burt has made more of those try saving tackles than Jarryd did. He only played a short amount of time back there and all his premier league career has been wing maybe some centre. My point is he has not been tested or tried enough in that position to claim anything about his defence at fullback.

Think you will find Jarryd has played a hell of a lot of flegg and junior footy at fullback and that is where he feels most comfortable. Burty is a great clubman and his attack can be brilliant, but as for his defence, I think the majority on this forum agree that his front on defence is ordinary. He is not the biggest guy running round and more often than not does'nt seem to like to put his body on the line.

I'd have Burt at fullback, but I'd make Hayne and Grothe return more kicks than him.

Burt's support play and speed make him a valuable attacking asset. He's a similar story to Matt Bowen (NOT in skill levels, just in the sense that they're both small men and are perpetually being called poor defenders). Both can be quite good in attack, but are a 50% chance of making that crucial tackle.

Although a positive for burt is his kicking game, would give us a 3rd point of attack

Here's one for those who aren't a fan of Burt at wing/fullback or Reddy at the back...What if Hayne shifts to the back and Reddy to the wing? Just a thought, I know Reddy has played a decent amount of wing and he is a solid defender with some pace who can find the line...I'm not sure how his defensive reading is on the wing, but could that be an option?

For the record I'm a fan of leaving Hayne at wing and Burt at the back for now, but that could be another option...

Not sure how successful that would be. QLD targeted B Hodgson in that area in Origin. The time lost in linking with the wingers negated any gain. It also drew the winger in to the first hit up, meaning he was not available for the next. Whereas King and Grothe were most effective taking the second tackle, as a genuine hit up or from dummy half. I could see that happening with us at club level too. Burt can be effective if he returns the ball and finds a gap. He is also good (much better than McKinnon) at making a break then linking with a man.

One thing Hagen will be looking to use is Burt's speed and instincts at pursuing the grubber, and Hayne's brilliance in the air. Wherever they play, I suspect that in attack in the opposition quarter, Burt will be roaming from fullback and hayne out wide?

Just on fullbacks - what is the position with Brent Webb? Is he leaving the Warriors? If not - surely he would be Warriors first choice and Wade may be looking at a move? Or is he off to England?

Well at least they landed a good replacement for him.

But they must be spewing at the amount of improvement he has shown since he or they made the decision for him to go.

burt is also great out of dummy half off a quick play the ball. His acceleration makes half gaps in the defence holes for him to run through. You take the good with the bad.
