the storm have to shed 350K still even after the release of Inglus, White and hoffman (the exact amount that cronk is on). How long until they fold and release him?

I don't think that is right. With the new cap concessions, and Schubert's allowing any payouts to add to this year's cap, I understand the Storm have to shed approx. $1m worth of talent.

If they lose Inglis ($650k), White ($200k?), Hoffman ($200k), Tandy ($55k), Finch ($100k?) then that is probably it, maybe one more lower tier (less than $200k) player to account for new players being signed at close to minimum wage.

Bring back Paul Carige, he could do a better job than Morts and he won't put his foot over the sideline if he's in the centre of the park.

Carige is an unsung hero

I, personally, don't think he's gone bad. Still learning the trade as far as I am concerned. You can't put old heads on inexperienced kids. He'll be fine...I love his toughness, and his willingness to put his body on the line. Good attributes for a young kid to have....

Absolutely pete - they are great attributes to have.
But as an NRL halfback, you need MORE than that. His vision is woeful. His passing and kicking games are poor. The halfback should be running the side, not being a tough little defender.
It seems that everything Tim Smith had, Daniel doesn't, and vice versa.
I want to see him do well and succeed. I just don't think he will.

Good call Suity..I probably agree with you on the skills bit, and the comparison with Tim Smith. You could probably build a good player out of the both of them..

So then Pete, that means your previous call about him coming good was WRONG!

In my opinion, I can see why people say he doesn't have "it"; that he lacks what it takes to be a good halfback in First Grade rugby league in the NRL.

But to me, the few glimpses of class he has shown this year and last (and he hasn't shown very many this year, but they have been there sporadically) show me a player worth persevering with.

He has a great attitude, doesn't shirk the work and has a good kicking game. I'm not sold on his passing game. And, in my opinion anyway, his vision is OK - he has showed me some excellent glimpses of great vision (the try he set up for Burt last year against the Dogs; the try he scored this year against the Sharks).

Bottom line for me is he has the ability in there somewhere, but the issue is Anderson can't or won't drop him. I'm assuming he doesn't want to drop him for sheer lack of options. And before you start with the "Mateo at 5/8 and Robson at halfback/Keating at 5/8 and Robson at halfback" routines or any of their variants, consider that Mateo has mostly been horrendously inconsistent this year, and Kris Keating has barely been any better.

I think it would be best for him to get some form and confidence plying his trade at Wenty. But I can see why the coach can't/won't drop him. But to me, he does have what it takes - deep down there, somewhere.

It's more a matter of how long should we persist IMO...

My two cents...Bombs away!

:clap::clap:- and how long do we let the team and the player suffer until we make the move?
And Pete - believe me, there will be a time when the expectation and questions will be too much for him.
You cannot make an Andrew Johns out of everyone, even if they have all the determination in the world.
Morts seems a great bloke but lets play him to his strengths not his weaknesses.

I sure hope so!

:D

Nah, I totally get where everyone is coming from. Morts has been very sloppy this year. And I, too, think a stint in Wenty would do him the world of good.

But...I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but somewhere in there I see a talented player. Perhaps not a halfback, per se. But I see occassional glimpses of class in him. He just needs to polish it all off.

In my opinion, any way. I can certainly see why people are critical of him.

Mortimer definitely has what it takes, in the future, he just doesn't have a good old head that he can be understudy to. Halfback is THE position more than any other that requires teaching. The half backs with just flair and a step don't get you a premiership.
Mortimer deperately needs a master. Kimmorely would be perfect......

Oh, and please don't let Morts kick for touch for another season. Did Langer kick for touch for the Broncos? Didn't Wally do all the line kicks?
