Hall of Fame and Immortals

Problem with all of this - is it is slanted to what people remember or have seen on TV or been told

As no one was alive ore 1950s and no TV pre 1960s people forget people from before this period

People sub consiously try and make up for it by including 60s 70s players

Best way to understand people from pre WWII era is to read reports from the RL Pioneers who saw it all

When the immortals came out as a Port advertising gimmic - it was about living legends

Team of the decade has been the best concept

We should probably choose two immortals from each of those teams

I am of the opinion everyone named in 2007 team of the century should be an immortal.

On stats alone, Brian Bevan would almost be the first bloke picked if you were starting the concept today.

796 tries? How can he not be one of the two. And then you have Dally Messenger who started it all and has the Player of the Year Award named after him.

They'd be my two.

Link?

And any reason given?

In his Monday crap column about Alan Jones being snubbed after being invited to participate. No reason given for zrothfield's axing. Not that we need one.

They locked Tuesday, July 31 (tomorrow), into their calendars for the get-together with other judges at Moore Park headquarters to vote for the next two Immortals.

(The panel includes Ray Warren, Phil Gould, Bob Fulton, Steve Crawley, Andrew Johns, Wally Lewis, NRL CEO Todd Greenberg, who put himself in, and Ian Heads.)

He is the most prominent and influential media personality in the country, bar none. Jones’s 2GB stablemate Ray Hadley was on the previous Immortals panel that voted in Andrew Johns. He too has been dumped this year and no one bothered to tell him, either.
● Disclaimer: Your columnist was also punted from the last Immortals panel.

It might have been mentioned earlier but is there going to be Hall of Fame inductees every year? have they set a time period for the next Immortal after this group?

Why would Alan Jones be on the panel in the first place? What Rugby League credibility does he have besides sending Balmain and Souths to extinction. Heard stories from Tigers players about how clueless as a coach he was.

So being a “prominent and influential media personality” gives you some sort of right or expertise to vote for the honour compared to Joe Bloggs down the road?

In short, yes they have. Have a read of this post I wrote in a different thread. It includes links to stuff on the NRL's website which goes into a lot of details about the whole thing. You'll find a few extra bits and piece on the pages there.

In terms of The Immortals, after this round of inductions, they will admit a maximum of 2 every four years (Source: https://www.nrl.com/hall-of-fame/induction-process/becoming-an-immortal/). Hope that is of assistance :)

f**king lol I just saw that Todd Greenberg is on the voting panel for the next Immortal.

While we're at it let's put Peter Beattie on the panel. He'd probably vote for Lionel Messi or Pat Rafter.
