In his Monday crap column about Alan Jones being snubbed after being invited to participate. No reason given for zrothfield's axing. Not that we need one.

They locked Tuesday, July 31 (tomorrow), into their calendars for the get-together with other judges at Moore Park headquarters to vote for the next two Immortals.

(The panel includes Ray Warren, Phil Gould, Bob Fulton, Steve Crawley, Andrew Johns, Wally Lewis, NRL CEO Todd Greenberg, who put himself in, and Ian Heads.)

He is the most prominent and influential media personality in the country, bar none. Jones’s 2GB stablemate Ray Hadley was on the previous Immortals panel that voted in Andrew Johns. He too has been dumped this year and no one bothered to tell him, either.
● Disclaimer: Your columnist was also punted from the last Immortals panel.

Pretty NSW heavy that judging panel.

On stats alone, Brian Bevan would almost be the first bloke picked if you were starting the concept today.

796 tries? How can he not be one of the two.
Because he played almost his entire career in the UK. Not an immortal of the Australian game. However, if it was the greatest players in the whole of Rugby League then he'd be one of the first picked.

I'm leaning towards Messenger and Provan (but I wouldn't be gutted if it was Dally and Mal).

Can't we just celebrate some of the greatest names in our game without going on about petty state rivalries and conspiracy theories. It really is pathetic.

That's quite the rage post.

I think it's important that any Hall of Fame recognises the massive contribution Queensland League (and notably the BRL) had on the development of the game.

I'm not claiming this panel won't or it's a conspiracy, but a bit more of a diverse mix couldn't hurt.

I get your point but the fact that he's on the shortlist, getting past the first phase of voting, means to me that his lack of playing in Australia would not appear to be a consideration in the voting criteria.

The panel could do with some gender diversity, too.

What's Rebecca Wilson up to these days?

Brian Bevan is Australian, so that's why he qualifies.

The NRL announced criteria for how non-Australian born players can qualify for admittance to the Hall of Fame.

To be eligible for inclusion in the Hall of fame, a player must have:

  • Competed in the elite premiership rugby league competition in Australia;
  • Played the majority of their elite rugby league career in Australia, and;
  • Retired for five years from competing in a professional sporting competition.

It is due to point 2 that players like Ellery Hanley, Malcolm Reilly, Adrian Morley and others won't be eligible for inclusion.

i'm expecting them to induct either Mal or Lockyer to keep the two headed inbreds happy, especially after their humiliation in SOO this year. Provan or DallyM to be the other inductee

Queenslanders on BHQ are already saying that Lockyer won't be inducted as the NSW panel will be biased against him.
