Hi all,

Who do you think are the Top 8 halves pairings in the games from 8 to 1 in terms of who you'd have for 2017 if possible??

Try and forget the Halves combination forwards packs and roasters and coaches around them and judge them purely on who you would want if you want to win a competition in 2017.

You would have to consider the Cowboys, Sharks and Storm pairing??

What about the new look Roosters, Warriors pairing.

What about the exciting young combination in Canberra, Penrith and the Titans

How about Moses and Brooks pairing, where do they fit in? Do they make the Top 8?

Which teams has the worst?

See if you can rank from from 8th to 1st or 16th to 1st if you really want.

Hard to pick. Do you pick on reputation, do you pick on current form, do you pick on the hope that youngsters continue improving at the same rate. On the basis that 2017 would be the last ever premiership and whoever won would be Premiers for eternity, then this would be my personal least desirable to most desirable halves.

16. Knights- Hard to believe Hodkinson was an Origin player only 18 months ago

15. Dragons- Uninspiring. Hunt can't come quick enough. Widdop should complement Hunt

14. Eels- Norman is to much of a risky prospect, Gutherson would be a good fullback

13. Manly- DCE has dropped off a lot, Foran was the mastermind of the good manly teams of the early 2010's

12. Roosters- both keary and pearce have shown they can be good players when in a dominate team and playing with a dominant half. One of these will have to become the main man now and neither has really thrived at that consistently

11. Bulldogs- 2 good (not great) halves that haven't found a way to play together yet.

10. Tigers- Moses has started fulfill the promise, time for Brooks to do the same

9. Panthers- Martin and Cleary are young, but the skies the limit for the Panthers

8. Titans- similar to the Panthers. Taylor and Elgey have so much promise

7. Rabbitohs- when walker and Reynolds were finally paired together late in the season it worked.

6. Broncos- Both are exciting flashy players but do either have what it takes to go all the way

5. Raiders- 2 good (not great) halves that have found a way to work together and with their team

4. Sharks- Aren't Premiers for no reason

3. Storm- Cronk can carry anyone to success

2. Warriors- On paper should be unstoppable. Reality may be different

1. Cowboys- Just complimentioned each other, seem to have strengths and weaknesses that suit each other. When Thurstons trickery don't work usually Morgan's strong straightening up running does. Both good on paper and in reality

Assuming Warriors halves will be Johnson and Foran is still jumping the gun a little, it's likely to be Johnson and Hingano, at least for the first few rounds.

Foran and Johnson on reputation might seem a great pairing. But Foran hasn't been right mentally for 2 years now and Johnson can disappear completely through games.

I think it could be a pairing that fails to deliver consistently. Probably going to be 1 week of looking invincible followed by 3 weeks of average form.

Hard to rate Penrith when Moylan does most the playmaking and is up with the best for try assists. Will be interesting to see how TMM fits into the side.

1. Cowboys
2. Warriors
3. Raiders

The rest.

Broncos halves aren't top 5.
If you're rating the halves only on the guys wearing 6 and 7, I don't think Raiders are top 3. If you remove Hodgson from the equation I think they just have a solid halves pairing.

Fulllbacks and/or hookers have become such a crucial part of the playmaking that it's really hard to judge the halves alone. Any half is going to look better with a Hogdson or Smith at hooker, or a Boyd or Moylan at fullback.

Widdop and Marshall were awful and couldn't create shit at the Dragons. Throw them into a spine with Hogson at hooker and Boyd at fullback and they probably are being debated about as a top 3 halves pairing. Meanwhile pair Sezer and Austin up with Dugan and Rein.... suddenly the points will dry up.

Nothing against Sezer and Austin... both are good players. But I think a huge part of their success is the ridiculous quality around them. Most important player being Hodgson. He's so good that I think he could go to a few clubs and have them as top 4 certainties, and have people seriously consider them as title contenders. I'd love him at Panthers. Moreso than any player at the Raiders.

Cowboys first, Sharks second.

The rest are yet to be proven as they haven't had much time together.

With the exception of the Broncos, whose 2016 form negates their 2015 form.

Johnson & Foran pretty handy together for the Kiwis, does depend on Foran getting his contract ratified of course.
