halves combo

Hey guys, just a quickie.

Everywhere i read i see manly's assumed best halves combo for 2010 as being 6. Lyon, 7. Foran.

Now i was in a few junior rep teams here in the parra district and i would have thought Hodko would be the heir apparent in the 7 jersey with foran at 6?

Any ideas or inside info? I know he is raw and has no first grade experience but he is a gun and from all reports killed them in the QLD Cup.

Yeah, knowing Des, he'll go killer/foran I think.

IMO we need a true 7 at 7. Foran/hodko is the way to go.. Or maybe killer/hodko as I'm worried that foran will defect to the rorters :-(

From my talks tonight the favored is Killer at 6 and Foran at 7. But for others in the club they want Hokko at 7 and Foz at 6. Which is expected to be the trials line up.

I think Des said all combinations will get a run during the trials.
Would hate to see Hokko not given a fair go, especially since Foran's 2011 intentions are still unknown.

Exactly what I'm worried about. my ideal combo is foran at 6 and hodko at 7, but if foran's is going to bail for the roosters, I'd rather him not waste our time and we can invest in a halves combo of Lyon/hodko.

That is exactly what is happening. I agree Foran is not suited to 7 but he is such a class act that I wouldn't put it past him to become one. That could take a season to happen but. Remember Melbourne did the same thing with Cronk. He wasn't a 7 but was thrown in and look at him now.

As far as Hodkinson goes, there was a lot of hype written about his performances. I watched 3 games live and I watched him mainly to get an opinion of him. Kicks well, passes good, organises well, Tackling is sh*t. He played one game against Norths and he never hit the ground once. He could have played in a dinner suit. Ashton Sims ran at him and he jumped out of the way. I don't think he is tough enough to play NRL.

I also don't think he is as highly regarded by Hasler as he by most posters here. But how many of his poster fams have ever seen him play Q Cup in the flesh.

If Foran doesn't make it as a 7, the club will be looking to find /sign a new 7.

there was that Thurston rumour not long ago about Manly building a cash reserve to offer him, I hope either Foran or Hodkinson work out and we dont need to spend that sort of cash

From an outsider looking in and having played junior reps along side with Keiran he is not a 7 doesnt have much ball playing ability is more of a running 5/8 or centre as previously stated which is he spent the majority of his junior footy also spent some time in the back row.

Who knows one day you might see 6. k .Foran 7. L Foran at the eagles or you may even see it at the roosters sooner rather then later.

Alot can happen in a year of footy.

You are 100% right. He is a hole runner and a good one. Playing him at 7 seems a waste of his talent. It would be interesting to know what he thinks about playing 7. Manly could in advertly be chasing him away.

THE Sea Eagles' budding halfbacks won't forget a torrid Australia Day training session in the blazing heat at their Narrabeen headquarters. Just back from a two-week coaching stint with the Warrington Wolves, which included a week in the Canary Islands, Andrew Johns ran with the Eagles' rookie halves Trent Hodkinson and Kieran Foran for the full session.
Joey looked right at home positioning the prospective No 7s in attack and defence before staying behind to have a kicking session with the two youngsters. Having Johns at some specialist sessions, on top of using the NRL referees in mock games as much as possible, is a tribute to the forward thinking of coach Des Hasler who has established himself as one of the best footy brains in the business.
