Hampstead and Harrigan

In this morning's Herald it was reported that Hampstead told video ref Harrigan that he was " thinking send off for the lifting tackle" but was told to give a penalty and put it on report.

I wonder whether Morley, Crocker etc would have received this gentle treatment. Oh yeah.

Yep...judge it on the reputation of the player and not the actions that were penalised.

Typical ref standards coming to the fore again.

Has anyone been sent off for a dangerous tackle this year? I can't recall any, and I've seen worse this year.

That imbecile Kennedy would of done more damage to Robertson's neck than Buderus.

I think the right call was made - how can you send someone off for what is really an accident IMO - it's a tough one as it was obviously dangerous, but did Buderus really do anything wong?

Hampstead thought it was serious enough to send the player off and was asking Harrigan to agree. This was a show of weakness on the ref's part and indicated his reluctance to make a decision involving a player with an international profile.

Most infringements are accidents. High tackles are, but you still see players sent off for them.

Hampstead only wanted to do that because he wanted to play even-stevens like he did in the first half. He had no choice to send Kennedy to the bin - the precedent had been set for players running into fights/potential fights. And he was obviously looking at reducing both teams to twelve men. It pains me to say this, but Harrigan made the correct call. No player (I think) has been sent off for a dangerous tackle this year...why start now?

Fair enough. We will wait until a player gets a broken neck and then start the sending offs.
