But there's no mystery there.

If it comes down to both wanting to leave with both having similar reasons, for example both want MORE input running the team who would the club choose? Or conversely wanting to stay (but not getting on with one another)

Watch for news of Souths, or another club, only paying half Dykes contract because if that turns out to be the case then he's been CUT.
Simple rule is

Player is cut - club that cuts him is in for half (or thirds in the Payten case) or ALL if player doesn't find a club

Player asks for release - releasing club in for nothing.
