Folau will come back to bite us in the arse especially since Ennis won't stick around with several clubs after him. To me a hooker and a prop combined especially with the class of Hannant and Ennis are worth far more than a centre. If we'd got him cheap then sure but we didn't and now we've put ourselves under salary cap strain. Along with the Bellamy fiasco and Petero last year, Bruno Cullen is looking pretty shaky. He'd be hoping the post-Bennett era isn't too rocky or he could find himself in the unemployment line.

You're jumping the gun there Sal. One prop leaving the club doesn't spell the death nell for a CEO. There's been other props and players moving around between clubs of late. And I've always thought the Civ-saga was more to do with Civ's management rather than then club ... but we'll never know because each party has their own story.

Sacking the CEO at the same time as a 20-year coach leaves would be disastrous ... to say the least.

No, I think Hannant leaving may have more to do with Bennett leaving than anything else, and Cullen can't do anything about that.

Signing Folau is about commercial reality ... he'll put bums on seats, something that every other club in rugby league is desperate to do.

Its not like we're an average Sydney team struggling to attract crowds, that we need an extra player to put bums on seats

True, but I bet "average Sydney teams" once thought the same thing.

Part of a CEO's role is to look at the risks in the market place ... and cover your bases because things can change very quickly. What if the Brisbane Lions start winning premierships again, and the Titans win a premiership ...

Sports dollars are extremely tight. Today the NBL announced that the Brisbane Bullets and the Sydney Kings are both struggling and close to extinction. There was a time when the Brisbane Bullets were the biggest thing in Brisbane sport.

The way i look at it is this. In 2003 Panthers won the premiership
2004- Bulldogs
2005- Tigers
2006- Us
2007- Storm
These teams have struggled in the years following the premiership with the salary cap forcing out many of the stars. Well apart from the Storm and us. With us winning the premiership so recently, we have to expect to lose a lot of our star players. This has been the case, with Tate, Berrigan, Webcke Civoneceva, and now Hannant etc leaving but thankfully for us we have been able to replace these players with more then capable replacements (Sims, Taylor, Boyd), and we've even picked up the NSW halfback and Australian winger/centre along the way. Not to mention former Australian prop Clinton and QLD hooker PJ Marsh.

So overall I think CEO Bruno Cullen has done a fantastic job. In 2007 and this year a lot of people were tipping the Broncos to struggle and miss the finals. We haven't made it this year yet but because of good management we have secured one of the, if not the strongest playing squad in the competition for this year and the future.

It's not just about a prop leaving, it's that cheeky little hooker that's soon going to follow him out the door because we won't be able to match the offers he's going to get thrown his way from cashed up clubs like the Bulldogs.

I'm not buying into Folau boosting crowds talk. We average more than any other club in the league and our averages have been going up every year since we moved back to Suncorp, we have no concerns in this area. The easiest way to build crowds is through on-field success and asking Taylor, Clinton and Kenny to lead our pack isn't putting us on that path.

Cullen has some big balls, the battle with Bennett over the last couple of years has shown that but when it comes to execution he's making a few slip ups. He did very well in the signings we made last year but this years recruitment of both players and coach has been piss poor at a time when it's vital moving into a new era.

Losing Hannant is a huge blow and I haven't seen anything from any of our other forwards to suggest it isnt going to be a massive loss. With the likelyhood of Ennis leaving too I can't see how anyone can suggest we are going to have a better team in 09 than we do this year.

Stability is the key for the Broncos at present with a 20-year coaching leaving.

Interesting you're making assessment of the 2009 recruitment drive when it hasn't finished. Please recall the signing of PJ Marsh that was made AFTER the 2007 season and came as a complete shock to most fans - what a coup it was and I don't put it past Cullen to repeat the dose.

As for signing of the coach, why is that 'piss pour'. On what are you basing this assessment?

As I said, stability and continuity is important when a 20-year coach leaves, and OK we didn't get Bellamy ... whose to say Henjak will not blossom into the next super coach. Bellamy was a nothing when he went to Melbourne.

Exactly, but hey apparently we'll have great crowds so it's all on the up :sarcasm:

The difference is that last year Cullen had the money to play with. With the dollars he threw at Folau he obviously started off with plenty this year as well but now we've seen our best prop walk out the door and we're likely to see Ennis just about our best player this year follow him because Cullen can't offer the same as rival clubs due to salary cap contraints that the Folau signing has put us under.

I'd take Hannant and Ennis over Folau any day of the week, especially when Marsh and Clinton are their inferior replacements.

Of course the coaching situation was piss poor. It's been obvious for years now that Cullen has been chasing Bellamy, it was part of the reason Bennett left as he saw the role was being groomed for someone else. Well if you're going to chase your man so aggressively then you better be damned sure you get him otherwise you come out of it with egg on your face.

Well would you rather Hannant/Ennis or Marsh/Wallace/Folau. He's picked up the NSW halfback which more then makes up for Ennis. Ennis is a w*nker anyway, and I'm pretty much just happy for him not to be in our team.

Clinton is a former Australian player. If he can get back to that form, he might end up being better then Hannant.

Who knows, with us freeing up all this money we might be able to make a play for Cameron Smith next year. He has indicated that he wants to move back to QLD.

The Ennis is a wanker thing I agree with totally.
Good player, but no one wants a tosser taking dives in their team.
Clinton turning out better than Hannant is clutching I think.

Couldn't care less if the entire team were wankers, I want to see us win. Since when do Brisbane fans care about being liked, everyone has hated our club since 1988 and I hope it stays that way.
I'd take Ennis being a wanker playing his current form over Marsh being the nicest guy in the NRL and his current form.

It's the same mentality that saw a fair chunk of our fan base not wanting Bellamy to coach our club. I really wonder if some of our fans want a successful team or just the cutest cudliest team in the NRL.

Your equation doesn't make sense. Let's put it properly. What you're really asking is would I rather have Hannant/Ennis/Wallace/Boyd over Clinton/Marsh/Wallace/Folau. It's a no brainer, Hannant and Ennis every day of the week. I don't care if Ennis eats children in his spare time, I only care about his ability to play hooker and he's the best specialist we've had since Priddis was at the club.

Clinton may be a former Australian player but that's like saying Daniel Wagon is a former SOO player. He had one good season which on the back of he made the Australian team. From that point onwards he's been on a downward slide. I thought he could turn that around at the Broncos but if a change of scenery and being coached by Bennett can't spark any improvement from him then I don't know how he's going to turn all that around from next year onwards.

I dont know about that. Folau is one of the best players in the NRL already, and he's only 19. Boyd is an average NRL player, on par with Steve Michaels (who we have re-signed I think), and Clinton can hopefully improve a bit. We have also bought Ashton Sims in the last year, who should make NSW City/Country one day. Marsh is capable, it's not like a few years ago when we needed a good hooker because we had a poor halfback (Perry, Seymour etc). We have the NSW halfback now who can guide the attack like we never could before when we had a poor half/hooker combination.

It's not that I don't want to win, its just that I can't support the team like I usually do with Ennis in it. I hate him that much. And I really can't wait until he leaves.

We can't bag the Broncos recruiting. Not yet anyway. Maybe in a few years when we miss out on the finals or something like that but not now. We've made 17 straight finals series or whatever so the Broncos management must be doing something right.

The worse thing is that Darius looks like he will be forced out. Hope he finds a new club soon.:(

Why start making assessments of the player roster for next year until we know what it is? Someone summed it pretty well before:

* Australian fullback
* Two Australian centres
* Current Australia captain and 5/8
* Current NSW halfback
* Several SOO backrowers
* Most promising front rower in the competition

Not a bad platform to build, and one that other clubs would drool over ... and who knows who's coming down the pipe.
