Hardest game(s) you've ever played?

Can be on any console, any type of game, just what's the most excruciatingly difficult game you have ever played, and why? Did you beat it? if you didn't when was the last time you gave it a crack? ....did you do it with or without cheats?

I can name three, and lo and behold they're all for the same console: the original NES

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Adventures of Bayou Billy
Super Contra

I haven't beaten any of these games, though I did get to Shredder on TMNT and got to the first final boss on Bayou Billy (my sister got to the second and last boss but died). Super contra I dont think i got anyhere close.

Basically all three games were typical of NES games, ridiculously difficult with little to no margin for error and absolutely no charity in the game - you f**k up and die, you start from the beginning, no continues.

I can say I have beaten battletoads before, without cheats! So that's gotta be worth something. :D

Haha yeah TMNT was one of those games that was frustration plus for me. The furthest I ever got was to the outside of the technodrone stage though I never got in.

The simpsons on NES was another frustrating experience. I can't remember where I used to get stuck but it wasn't anywhere near the end. Think it may have been in the shopping centre stage but can't remember.

bart vs the world or bart vs the space mutants? i remember both ... think I preferred vs the world.

@Walt Flanigan hahahaha i remember this stage very distinctly. I used to be scared of it when I was 5. I always hated the sewer levels, there was this one particular level where you had to hop onto individual bricks to sidescroll through the stage, f**king tiny ass platforms between largish jumps and if you fell into the water, right back to the start of the level (which was usually filled with enemies).

it made me so mad because above all i was like, wtf they are turtles why sewer water a huge problem for them.

U.N Squadron on the Super Nes was a tough one for me to finish but I somehow managed to.

Terminator on Nes was pretty difficult too.
How about Superman 64?

This one

I remember actually downloading this many years ago. The prick who invented this must have been pure evil.

p.s. this is not the world's hardest game anymore, its been superceded but it was insanely frustrating at the time. It's called Cat Mario if you want to find it.

this mission on gta vice city was always a pain

I can't remember this mission being particularly hard. Every list of hard stages either includes this, the zero rc plane mission or the cj on a train mission in San andreas
For me the hardest mission from that era gta's was the one in vice city when you are recruiting for the big heist job and you have to beat the driver in a race in a shitbox of a car.

Toejam and Earl! Me and my friend would play it nearly every weekend.
I don't think there was a save option (if there was, we never found it), and we could never complete the puzzle lol
