Has it been worth it?

Look , we have 10 players leave/leaving at the end of this season:

1.Henry Faafili (Warrington) (KIWI REPRESENTIVE)
2.Jerry Seu Seu (Wigan) (KIWI REPRESENTIVE)
3.Matt Jobson (released)
4.Danny Sullivan (retired)
5.Mark Tookey (Castleford mid season) (NEAR PICK FOR QLD)
6.Paul Dezolt (Easts Tigers mid season)
7.Vince Mellars (Cronulla mid season)
8.Ali Lauitiiti (Leeds mid season) (KIWI REPRESENTIVE)
9.Justin Murphy (English RU)
10.PJ Marsh. (QLD HOOKER)

Currently only 3 have been purchased, two of those guys are over 30

1. Wiki ( KIWI CAPTAIN) (over 30)
2. Price (AUSTRALIAN AND QLD REPRESENTIVE) (over 30)
3. Fein

So, im just thinking, with 3 kiwi reps, a qld hooker (who was on shortlist for australia) and a near SOO player, plus 5 other quality players have been worth 2 over 30 representive players and an on form Fein.

I dunno, i mean, the signings of Price and Wiki were awesome and Fein was a bargain buy, but to loose 10 players is a bit of a doozer.

Im hopin that Kemp can sign a bloody number 2!!

What Price and Wiki bring to the club, is alot more than what the ones have left have got to offer

The loss isn't as much as it seems. Out of the players you mention only Lauitiiti is a definite big loss. Marsh is also a big loss but we didn't have him this year and it's still very doubtful if he'll play in 2005 at all.
Of the others I'd only choose to keep Fa'afili, he's a solid player especially given our lack of wingers.
SeuSeu and Tookey have been good in the past but would struggle to make the bench these days, qnd Murphy isn't NRL standard, nor is Dezolt. Mellars never proved himself at the top level, and Jobson and Sullivan hardly played a game between them so won't be missed.

Price and Wiki are both elite standard players. The only way the abnove group would be worth more than them would be if included Lauiti'iti, Marsh and Seu Seu all at peak form, and lets face it that was never going to happen.

yeh, but its also about positional back-up.

All of those 10 have had experience somewhat (sullivan i cant remember though).

I dunno, it probably hacks me off that Mellars, Murphy and Henry are all going when our depth at the back is so bleak.

On the other hand Seuseu has spent a large amount of time suspended this year.

Ali, Tooks and Dezolt really didnt play this season and left too early.

Sullivan and Jobson didnt play a handful of games between'em

Mellars im kinda pissed off him leaving. I mean he wasnt a high salary earner AND we dont have depth at centres at all.

Murphy i personally liked, but his defence does need a touch up

Henry i am extremely gutted about

I am kind of glad Marsh left though, but i feel he left it too late for the warriors. I believe he should have left earlier on, then maybe we could have kept mellars and still been in the runnings for someone. all said and done, i wish PJ the best.

But, i am extremely happy bout Fein, i believe he may be one of if not THE bargain buy of the NRL. If we would have left it a bit later, he'd probably be on a higher salary.

Wiki and Price are both great players and extremeley happy to have, though i am concerned how we have spent so much on these 2 players, whom are over 30, perhaps we could have used money better, but then again doesnt get much better than these 2.

I dunno, im confused at the moment

Mellars - left on his own acord. And no warriors fans saw how much talent this kid really haves!!

Who cares if Wiki and Price are 30 - didnt hear know one complaining when the Warriors signed Tea Ropati, Dean Bell, Greg Alexander, Phil Blake, Andy Platt in 1995??

6.Paul Dezolt (Easts Tigers mid season) - Very Average
7.Vince Mellars (Cronulla mid season) - Never showed his true talent

Lauitiiti and Marsh, MASSIVE losses in the short term scheme of things. Marsh could be replaced in time by Nathan Fein who has been blo0dy terrific for the Cowboys, dead set that could turn out to be the value buy of the year.

Lauitiiti, if Faumuina gets his head space right we can do 80% of what Ali could do. There's also Frank-Paul Nauusaala coming through who from all reports is going to be a massive star, ball playing back rower.

But, for mine its not just the on field side of things, its the off field side of things. PJ and Ali are too genuinely nice fellas and its hard to think of them not playing in the Warriors jumper or being a part of our community. Make no bones about it though, Ruben Wiki and Steve Price are also terrific community leaders who will have the same sort of off field impact as Ali and PJ.

You're right though Shaun, the Warriors need a good number 2 or 3. If its just one, they could probably make do with Martin or Vatuvei as a centre and sign up a skilled winger. Even as someone suggested elsewhere, they get one top flight winger and also sign Odell Manuel who will want next to nothing as there's no other NRL interest seemingly in him. He was a rookie of the year at the Warriors.

For mine the pack looks fine and is boosted by Price and Wiki, the right fringe that worries me.
