its funny how everyone is critical of Shens' decision to play fitzy on the wing. How much of the game is focussed on fitzy's part of the field, in comparison to the forwards.

You need 6 forwards to make a forward pack. We have Skandalis, Laffranchi and Payten. No one else is good enough. These guys are good enough at club level, Skando being the best of them all, he's gotta be borderline rep selection for Origin. However, 3 forwards don't make a pack of 6.

Our backline is horrid, Having to pick between Reick or Fitzhenry for a wing spot, its hardly an enjoyable decision. Both are quick and thats about it. Fitzhenry's best football has been played when he was at dummy half. If he could tackle he'd be a good hooker.

We have a five eighth in Benji Marshall, who admittedly is a great talent, but he has no kicking game. Thus placing more responsibility and pressure upon his halfback Prince.

The team needs a prop (something better than Jobson, he's been a pathetic joke ever since his debut at Newcastle) and a decent Second Rower, O'Neill is good, loyal and has a big heart, but his time is drawing nigh, and Galea needs to be at Lock.

Its great to see so many young guys but a lot of them aren't physically and mentally tough enough for the week in week out rigours of first grade. We need players that are at that level.

Sheens is not to blame that he has half a decent team of players. I think he has done a wonderful job and has got the tigers into a position where they aren't laughed at constantly.

Typical of a lot of Wests Tigers fans, I remember reading "Sack the coach" after every f**king game we lost at the old official forum.

Someone had a less than awesome game and they wanted to sack someone, sacking management, sacking coaches, sacking players.

These dicks have gotta stop drinking so much grog before trying to operate their keyboard whilst attempting a rational thought all at the same time.

Theres no-one else you say.......yep true that , both PL's are sucking big time too, theres no one else because someone recruited an unwanted center whos been a successfull buy , a dodgy winger after letting go a winger that repped this year, bought flegg players and reserve graders and a couple of union boys that havent even seen first grade.

The boys WONT meet their goal of a top four finish, Sheens' original master plan of top 8 finish for season '05 looks like failing as well, unless by some miracle we slip into eighth to be tackling bags for the eventual minor premiers.

This season we have had five wins,of which two could have gone the other way just as easy.
The team compared to last year,is going backwards.
I see what Des Hasler,with some QUALITY recruitment has done in one season,turned and aveage side into a contender.
Even Brian Smith,has got his chargers going places.
But we are told to be patient,that Tims msater plan will deliver us,golden years.I hold my breath to see who Tim recruits for 2006.

he brought some talent to the club that his predecessors would have dreamed of.

I admit he's made some shocking decisions, but he has at least given the team some respect off the field, something they didn't have before his arrival.

I think he should be cut some slack.

I think he is like Brian Smith in that he has great game plans ready to go but not the players to execute them. His games plans may seem basic now but he can only work with the crap players he is given. Once he has better cattle, his superior coaching skills will come to the fore.

Coaches like Sheens and Smith don't rely on motivational speeches to get their players going - they expect their players to be professional enough to be ready for game day when it arrives and would rather educate their players in how they can best utilise their skills (sometimes limited) rather than play mind games with them.

Need I remind you who bought Rieck in the first place?

Who plays Fitzhenry on the wing when he isn't a wingers a.r.sehole?

Who bought Jobson, and then stuck him in reserve grade when our forwards were playing like pansys?

Who bought rugby union players that have never been seen in FG when we needed props?

Sheens has done an admirable job getting us to become respectable after the disasters of Lamb/Langmack and co.

But we need to move that extra step forward and unless we sign some real talent in the forward come June 30, Sheens is not going to be the man that helps us take that extra step.

I'd give Sheens one more season, as we have the opportunity to spend some big dollars. If we still can't make the 8 next year, he has to go.

Sheens is one of the best coach’s of the last 25 yrs, I'd rate him in the top 3 with Ryan and Bennett. He changed the shape of the game in his yrs at Canberra, reinventing attack with his focus on deep width to combat the influence and then dominance of compressed and up and in defence patterns. Much of the junior success at the Cowboys is testament to the structure he put in place. A significant impediment at the time was Sheens difficulty with the then board, it is no coincidence that internal changes there after supported positive on field progress. Those that want to be critical of how long it took for the Cowboys to become a force might want to consider the difficulty that Souths and Manly have gone through in recent yrs and the same problems that the Gold Coast will face through the next 5. Only one start up club has had immediate success and that was Storm riding on the back of News $'s and the windfall of quality players left over when the NRL and News brokered peace.

Sheens walked into a disgraceful rabble at the Tigers, Junior admitted it was all too hard and walked, Lamb had NFI. The combination of a quality CEO and Coach has slowly rebuilt the operation and reshaped their attitude, both on and off the field. Numerous lazy big mouth big heads were quickly moved on. Compare the quality of player, age and development to some 4 yrs ago?

Sheens is one of the few remaining strategists in the game, able to construct defensive and attacking game plans both suited to using what he has yet provide a winning opportunity, barring Bennett, Bellamy, Hagan and maybe one or two others the remainder are just sheep who follow what ever looks in vogue. Have a closer look at the attacking set plays well executed by a young and generally inexperienced side, with variations each week dependent on the weakness he wants to expose or the strengths he wants to play to. Last nights game is the perfect example. Following weeks of poor second half performances and mounting pressure on some inexperienced yet quality youngsters he rotated his line up and changed the game plan. Instead of engaging in the muscle game with a large forward pack he ran Cronulla off their feet with clever ruck speed, quick darts from dummy half or smart one and two pass plays off quick halves for fast yardage. He then rotated the young guns off the bench to capitalise. Compare the attack options of either side? Just fast forward through the game, or pick any other and watch the Tigers construct from set plays (tap or scrum restarts) or hand overs when 30mtrs out (Sheens has always been the best exponent of scrum set play attack). This by comparison is one of Raper's key weakness. The Sharks last night (like any other game) had numerous final 20 attack sets yet have no plan or plays, left and right pass plays based on hope or overlap then kick to the corner!! Had they used this to advantage and actually tried to create and or open holes to put the ball through and taken a points advantage the Tigers may well have found it difficult to stay in the game. Just more wasted opportunity.

The Tigers will continue to mature through the next few yrs into a strong and competitive semi final side, with thanks to Mr Sheen. You don't have a 241 game win record and last near 500 games without quality. Has Mr Sheens lost his shine ? No, he just gets better with age.

Mr Sheens has not lost his shine, he is a great coach with a young & inexperienced football side that is going to be consistent. He is laying a great foundation for future years with this current outfit.

Mr. Sheens simply hasn't got the players to mount a serious premiership challenge with.

Still, I think there are plenty of good wins for the Tigers before the year is out.

It really does show how big the turn around was. When they finally clicked it was like looking at one of those 3D hologram things - it just looks like a mess until suddenly the image appears like magic.

I said a coach should be judged on his results and Tim's credit was running low. Well he made one hell of a deposit didn't he? I'm sure making us critics eat humble pie was behind a lot of the smiles on GF night.

Like they say, never say never.

Last season sure taught me a lesson, sitting in 12th spot in round thirteen, it sure looked like another ordinary season for Wests. Just goes to show you never know whats around the corner.
I rather look silly here though than be in some of those bookies possys that got done for 151/1.
