Has the Bubble burst in Melbourne?

It only adds value to the rights if people in Melbourne watch.
You were saying if they started doing badly no one would care, so what value would they add for TV?

On the topic though, I think they'll be fine once Slater returns (should be next week). Plus they have some easier games coming up to help.

So any new team in a non-traditional area (like Perth for instance) has to finish top 4 every year or face extinction?

Pretty unsustainable model wouldn't you agree?

And Fancy a Souffs fan saying they only survive because they have a sugar daddy.

The Storm get 8 million a year from News. Crowe hasn't put that much into the club in a 12 month period since 2008 or so.

Our membership revenue dwarfs theirs, I'd be 99% confident our stadium deal is more profitable, Star is paying a massive amount to be our main sponsors, I doubt the Storm get as much.

The last 3 years we've been profitable. As far as I know the Storm have never had a profitable financial year.

To compare our situation with theirs is ignorant and laughable.

Mentioning Souths in a thread that has nothing to do with Souths is also stupid.

lose a few games and we're talking about the hypothetical of them winning consecutive spoons fmd  Every team goes through rough patches, even Melbourne

Yes but our Sugar Daddy is different, because we have massive advantages that Melbourne don't have access to??

Back on point its completely flog worthy to state that any team not located in NRL heartland has to win it all every season or face extinction.

Slater or not, Melbourne will win next week.

That much is a certainty.

Is it any wonder that most of the people commenting about the Melbourne's possible future struggles don't actually live in Melbourne? Gimme a break!
The infrastructure is in place there now, and regardless of Melbourne's position on the ladder the game will continue to grow.

Melbourne wont die if they win a spoon. Their crowd is going to turn up regardless of whether they are playing well or playing poor. They are not a team that strikes me of getting many walk up starters through the gate.

Not without junor development and nurturing it as a sport in schools it won't.

Have you ever visited an AFL state?

Bullsh*t. Storm fans are mainly ex-pats, not people who would rush back to AFL at the sign of the first dropped ball.

To be passionate about any team, that team needs to show some degree of success.

The Object of the game is to get Collingwood, Essendon, North Melbourne, St.Kilda, Melbourne, Hawthorne, etc etc fans to jump ship and start having an interest in Rugby League.

It's a bit impossible to start having an interest unless the team is doing well.

Moreover, how passionate can you be about a team of transplanted New South Welshmen, Queenslanders, Kiwis and Pacific Islanders if you're a Victorian?

That's why I believe it's important to have a junior development program for Rugby Leage in Victoria before you start an NRL team.

I myself am half-hearted about AFL, yet if there were Swans and GWS players that were actually born and bred in Sydney, I might take a greater interest.
