This is going to make me feel so dirty i may have to steel wool my skin raw before i feel clean again, but
I don't entirely disagree with IBM. I don't think it's as bad as he makes out, but for mine the Dogs have not been a threat for some time outside of Barba's 2012 season.

2014 they had a charmed run coming up against depleted sides. They never looked liked premiers.

The big issue is the inability to sign/develop a decent half and never replacing Barba with someone who could play a proper link role from FB.

They're a boring uninspiring team to watch, but somehow Hasler gets them into the 8 every year and they'll probably find a way to get there again this year.

Having said that they're zero threat for the premiership unless Mbye and Lichaa have gone under a butterfly like transformation over the off season.

I used to despise the Dogs but I admire their guts.
I think Reynolds cops a lot just for tripping a bloke and kicking a chair.

He did a fair bit more than that that night if my memory serves. A couple of bad high tackles but the trip + chair kick obviously stands out moreso.

So based on an LU thread, you've written a team off for the 2017.
You need to pick your battles in this war...

They are so bad that they only managed to beat the Broncos once last year. And the year before as well

Pretty much spot on here....without a decent 7 or 9 we will remain around mid table. For mine Reynolds needs to move to hooker, Mbye to 5/8 and we need to find a decent half with a kicking game.

Goal kicking is also an issue, Kerrod Holland hasn't cemented a FG spot and Mbye is average at best.

There are some clubs who'd love a finals spot every year and a couple of grand finals.

Sure, a premiership would be nice but consistently good/ok beats a year of amazing followed by a decade of dross (see: St. George Illawarra).

Or two decades of sneaking into the eight every couple of years (Raiders), or 5+ years of shite (Rabbitohs/Cowboys/Eels/soon to be Knights)? Dogs have been a strong team for the best part of the last 35 years. Anyone jumping off the boat after a 7th place finish was never a fan to begin with.

The Dogs are a team that can beat you in any game during the regular season, but come Finals time they are never really a threat of winning it all. They have a pretty average roster but always have good defence and can grind teams down. Good coaching gets them through to the Finals every year.

I f**ken hate the Dogs more than anything, but I would take their record over the last 10 years over my team's any day.

Then again Id take every team's record over the last 10 years over mine any day.

Thaaaaat's better. As soon as the trolls f**k off the thread is back on the rails.

To be fair, there is more to it than just making the finals that need be judged. The fashion in which they were eliminated can't be dismissed, usually a thrashing that makes it clear they were an outlier. Same rule can be applied to Griffins' tenure at the Broncos. We made the finals more often than not, but usually from 8th place only to be wiped out in the first week.

That to me is a failure of a season, really. And I would say that If I was a fan of any other club as well. It brings discussion about culling the finals sides down to the top 6 back into the picture once again because (at least as far as my memory goes) the Dogs making the GF from 7th is the only example in recent times of a side finishing that low than making the GF, and that was the final year of the McIntyre format if I'm recalling right. And as has been previously mentioned, there were even underlying circumstances to that like other teams being badly diminished at the wrong time.
