Have NSW completely lost the plot?

Here are my issues with the current side summed up briefly

1. Beau Scott - What has this guy done to deserve an origin jersey? I've got nothing against the bloke he's a solid first grader but why pick him when there are far better options available like Michael Jennings. Not only that but it forces Tahu to play out of position on the wing.

2. Trent Barrett - The selectors insist they're picking a side for the future. Not only have they changed the halves combo yet again but they've dropped one over the hill half.... only to replace him with a different over the hill half.

3. Brett White - Has this bloke ever done anything on the footy field to deserve rep selection? Let alone start for NSW. He's a pillow of the highest order. Sure, he's a grub who can throw in a few cheap shots. But so is Paul Gallen. The difference is Paul Gallen is a bloody good player as well as being an utter grub.

4. Captaincy - Why give the captaincy to a bench player? The selectors made the correct decision in moving Hayne to fullback, but it's ridiculous to name a bench player as your captain. It's almost as if Bellamy and co. don't want to strip him of the captaincy in case Gidley gets upset.

5. Nathan Hindmarsh - Even though he's my favourite player, he should either be in the starting side or not there at all. Having him come on after 25 - 30 minutes is not going to achieve anything. He won't let the side down but he won't offer any impact either.

6. Two props - A bench of Gidley, Lahrs, O'Donnell and Hindy. We all know Lahrs and O'Donnell can play a bit of prop when needed. But essentially they are back rowers. And to go into a game with no specialist prop on the bench is stupid. Especially when you consider one of NSW's starting props is an absolute marshmellow.

Anyway that's my rant for the day, feel free to comment.

I agree with you Eels Dude.

The plot has been well and truly lost.

I would add that Cooper's selection is also very questionable as he was hopeless in game 1, even though he has been very good in the past.

The plot left with Phil Gould. His brother common sense hung around to help out Sticky for a while but than joined Gus who subsequently sold them to the QRL for a bucket of cold sore cream

1. Jennings had his chance to stop G.I. in the past. He didnt. Spot lost.
2. Barrett is there to take the pressure off Pearce. Pearce is a tad young to be directing the team around the paddock in a SoO dont you think??
3. A f**king myth. No idea why he is in the team.
4. Gidley should never have been named camptain to start with. His a bench player at best.. Dumb decision and the selectors are keeping as captain to save face.
5. Agreed. Minimum 2 Props on the bench. Why pack it with 3 second rowers for!!!

1. Beau Scott - I wouldn't have picked him and think the backline in general says "we are more concerned about limiting how much we lose by than trying to increase our chances of winning". I potentially wouldn't have picked Cooper either, but at least his selection is defensible. Despite being an Eels fan, I wouldn't have picked Tahu in a pink fit ... at least there isn't anyone else beating down the door for that wing spot.

2. Trent Barrett - Barrett was bog ordinary for the first two months of the competition, but has been utterly ON FIRE for the past month. Given his experience and the fact that we'll have a relatively inexperienced halfback, I think his selection is spot on.

3. Brett White - Agreed. Not only isn't he good enough, he's actually holding out some young guys who need to get a taste. Next year, we're just going to have the same old problem. The series is very near lost already, so I would have given a spot to two of the upcoming props now so that they had some foundation to build on for the 2011 series.

4. Captaincy - Agreed. It never should have gone to Gidley in the first place.

5. Nathan Hindmarsh - "Even though he's my favourite player, he should either be in the starting side or not there at all." Sums my opinions up perfectly.

6. Two Props - In the first game it was they had 4.5 centres (if you count Lewis). In Game 2 it's 6.5 backrowers (if you count Scott). Is it really that hard to just pick the best three or four and CUT THE REST? They have no problem leaving out guys who either deserve their shot (Snowden, Douglas) or didn't get a fair go the first time round (Campese) ... so why is it so hard to cut centres and backrowers?!?!?!? Everyone can see how stupid only have two genuine specialist props in the team is.

Eels dude makes alot of sense. NSW have no clue. Beau Scott is a fine defender, but you do need to score points also...something NSW have struggled to do so since Johns called it a day.

1.I'm happy with Scott in the team, still wondering why Cooper is there.
2.I would have been happy with either Barrett or Sutton, but Barrett has a fair bit more experience.
3.A dead set myth, only there because of the end of game 3 last year.
4.I have no idea, they named Barrett Vice captain, why not just make him captain, and if they have to give Kidley something, give him VC.
5.Yes that worries me as well. I love Hindy as much as anyone, but as you stated, he should be either 80 minutes or not there at all. Not a bench player.
6.The dumbest thing NSW did was to leave Mannah out of the side.

Nah ... the next team will be the team full of halves and hookers (since we've had centres and backrowers).

1. Gidley
2. Hayne
3. Lyon
4. Lewis
5. Carney
6. Barrett
7. Pearce
8. Bird
9. Farah
10. Tongue
11. Campese
12. Sutton
13. Anasta

14. Ennis
15. Hornby
16. Young
17. Mateo

(Surprisingly there's only five debutants in that bunch ... shows how much chopping and changing NSW have done in recent years.)

Guys who could consider themselves unlucky ...
Soward
Wallace
Campbell
Mullen
De Gois
Kimmorley
Mortimer
Kris Keating
Robson
Priddis
Kingston
Walsh
Hodkinson

1. Lame selection.
2. Good choice.
3. The worst selection still currently in the team.
4. I don't know if they're going to stick with this really. It appears that way now, but we will see.
5. Agreed. I don't think he really should have even been picked in the starting line-up either, but that's just me. Not one of the worst selections (him being in the team) but still pretty dumb (being on the bench).
6. Agreed... Snowden??

The whole NSW selection focus seems to be strictly on how to limit the damage we (Qld) can inflict.
On the other hand, NSW has tons of workers and solid players with Hayne, Pearce and... who else exactly to trouble Qld? Gidley?

That's exactly right. And in this case they've picked Cooper and Scott, two defensive centres, in the hope it will shut down Inglis, Thurston, Slater etc. We're not going to shut them down though by picking defensive centres, we need to counter attack against them. Defence wins games sure, but NSW still need to pick players that can attack as well. The fact that in game 1 every time QLD attacked our line they looked dangerous, however every time NSW attack their line nobody knows what to do. Oh apart from Ben Creagh that is who puts a grubber in to no-one on the 4th tackle.

I think the funniest thing is that from game 1 where NSW lost by four points, 3 of the 4 vital positions on the footy field have changed hands. I dont know how long it takes to form combinations, but i'd think that it takes longer than a week in state of origin camp. I think that if NSW had got it right in the first place and had Hayne at 1 and Barrett at 6, bringing Pearce in at 7 would have been easier for the second game.

Gotta look at the positives but:

1. Sure Gidley is captain but its only a (c) next to the name and its good to see him on the bench.

2. Pearce is definately the future of NSW and its good to see him out there and having Barret will definately help him alot (tutoring, mentoring etc)

3. Gallen in the side is a must. Seroiusly best backrower in the game, tons of metres, never misses a tackle and is in the heart of everything.

4. Hayne to fullback. Creativty NSW have been sorely lacking, his sweeping in and playmaking could make a huge difference.

I am sure there are plenty more positives but honestly the only thing that matters now is if we win the game or not.

All true. This team is an improvement on game 1 so lets hope to f**k they can get it done this time. Damn shame about Lewis, I would much rather see him on the bench than Hindmarsh, isnt he carrying an injury??

Im surprised NSW supporters arnt happy with there team.. looks better then the first one to me..

The only shock that i have is with Barrett, is why wasnt he selected in game 1 and partnering Kimmorley. They keep tryin to match 1 young guy with 1 experienced guy.
Kimmorley and Barrett in the hlaves would have been the correct pairing.
Thats what won em game 3 last year wasnt it?

They can dump kimmorley without any remorse.. but they cant take the little "c" next to gidley away from him even tho he's starting off the bench.. haha.. and Barrett gets "vc" so he will be "the" captain until Gidley comes yet Barrett wasnt selectd in game 1?!?!?

It must be frustrating being a NSW supporter atm.

Good being a QLD supporter tho..
