Hayne black and white for Norm
The man who has committed close to $1 million in personal sponsorship towards Jarryd Hayne being at the Titans has thrown his support and chequebook behind the under-fire superstar.
Norm Black, the TripADeal boss, says he has talked to Hayne at length about recent events – including The Sun-Herald's revelation Hayne had been fined by the club's leadership group because of his poor attitude to training – and is convinced that this will bring the best out of the Titans and Hayne.
"Jarryd is happy here and the players are happy here," Black said. "I've seen all this talk where he's painted in a bad light as a stuck-up wanker. Nothing could be further from the truth. I don't cop those people in my life and I have a pretty good detector when it comes to that.
"As for him attacking the media: if you get poked with a stick enough, surely you are going to grab the stick and hit back at some point.
"We are dealing with something that has been dealt with and I know the playing group is behind Jarryd every step. I get that big stars in any avenue of life can be hard to deal with, but I have not seen that from Jarryd in the slightest."
It would appear the Titans are a divided group. But Black disagrees.
"That can be an easy conclusion to reach looking in from the outside, but the inner sanctum, who I've been talking to ... I'll go so far as to say that this has the potential to be the making of the Titans," Black said.
"It will unite the club even further. There is a real nice solidarity and the key figures at the club love having him here. I know the players are very happy that Jarryd is here."
