Peter Sterling does not expect Jarryd Hayne to play for Parramatta Eels again

Speaking on his Sterlo’s Wrap-Up video for Wide World of Sports, Sterling said Hayne’s best days were probably behind him and the Eels would be best served to stick with the young talent they have at their disposal.
While saying that the woes being experienced by the Gold Coast Titans were not solely the fault of the former San Francisco 49ers players, Sterling said Hayne’s days at the Eels should be over.
''I think his time at the Eels has passed, I was disappointed like a lot of Parramatta fans when his time in the NFL finished up that he didn’t return to Parramatta,’’ he said.
''I thought the club had done the wrong thing in firstly allowing him to go and not making something official that if he did return to the NRL that he came back to the blue and golds.
''But time moves on, the roster at Parramatta has improved, especially in areas that Jarryd Hayne would be looking at.
''The kind of money he’d be talking, I don’t know what clubs would look to accommodate that. I don’t think he’s going to be as valuable unless he has a bumper season next year for the Gold Coast Titans.
''But I don’t see him in blue and gold once again. I question whether the best days of Jarryd as a rugby league player are behind him.
''There are a couple of signs there that he hasn’t come back as dominant and exciting as what he left.’’
The Eels boast talented youngster Clint Gutherson and Bevan French in the fullback position. It is unlikely the club would offload either of that pair to make way for an aging Hayne.
While on the Eels, Sterling said the club needed to be very careful the way they acted with regard to French rugby bound winger Semi Radradra.
Fresh off a masterful four-try performance against the Broncos, Radadra has asked the Eels to keep some money up their sleeve in the hope he can return following a season playing the 15-man game.
Sterling said the club needed to cover their bases before they agree to any such idea.
''It’s a wonderful gesture and it’s lovely to think that Semi may come back to the club after his jaunt overseas, but Semi’s not the most reliable conveyance I suppose,’’ he said.
''To keep the kind of money that you would need to pay Semi aside and [then] for whatever reason he doesn’t come back, then you may have missed the boat on some other talent coming in.
''I would want something official before we went away.
''I don’t know if you can keep that sort of money aside in the hope that Semi – down the track is going to decide to return to the NRL.’’
