You'll argue "tell that to the guy who drives the boat that breaks up the turds in the primary sedimentation pond at the sewerage treatment plant". But again, I am talking macro-level.

Slow down, Garry. My father used to do that. And his father before him. Fine men, they were

Also, don't underestimate how hard it is to up and leave when you are scared shitless and completely overpowered. F**k, if you are scared that the bloke will hurt (or even kill) you why would you risk telling someone else?
How many times have you heard a victim say "I was too scared to leave"? I can't possibly blame a woman in that instance. Who am I to say that her fears aren't real or that she should just toughen up and get out of that situation. I'm a big burly bloke!

You're exactly right about this, Garry. And it's pretty plain to see that women are at the wrong end of a power imbalance in some contexts. But not all contexts. And my belief is that it is far more relevant to look at the micro-level of things than it is to look at reported overall 'trends' which mostly have the sticky fingerprints of hidden political agendas smeared all over them. As you say, this is not a simple question - and anyone thinking that, is an idiot. It is not as simple as saying, "well, none of the women at my work feel any sort of power imbalance". Nor is it as simple as saying "we live in a patriarchal society and there's this overall trend".

Agreed. The power imbalance is obvious in my example but it isn't always that clear.

There are 'hidden agendas' in all information as it is an emotional topic. You argue that trends are political. Equally individual groups have agendas and interests as well.

Its tougher to solve than Chinese algebra.
