First reaction and gut was stuff him, but like most I bought into his bullshit. But it will be good to watch him no thru blue and yellow glasses. Fans always over hype their juniors. Talented-skillfull-could do it all. Also lazy at times-went missing in big games and inconsistent.

One of the greatest players to ever play the game, Thurston will feature alongside star teammates Jason Taumalolo and Matt Scott in the blockbuster clash on Saturday June 10.

Furthermore, the Eels will host the Gold Coast Titans in a pre-season clash on Saturday, February 11 in Alice Springs.

Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss, said both matches would again be a highlight on the local sports calendar.

JARRYD Hayne is on the hunt for a new major sponsor after splitting with sportswear giant Under Armour.

“The Hayne Plane” signed the lucrative apparel deal with one of the world’s largest sports brands during his dalliance with NFL club San Francisco 49ers.

Hayne appeared live on breakfast television in Australia to announce the deal which was his first major endorsement after leaving the NRL in 2015.

Under Armour boasts some of world sport’s biggest names in its stable including golf prodigy Jordan Spieth, NBA star Steph Curry, NFL great Tom Brady, swimming legend Michael Phelps and tennis world No. 1 Andy Murray.

Murray’s multi-year deal is worth $US23 million while Curry is believed to be paid $US4 million-a-year by the company.

Under Armour confirmed to The Sunday Mail it had reached an agreement to split with Hayne.

“Under Armour and Jarryd Hayne mutually agreed to part ways,” the company said in a statement. “We wish Jarryd all the best in his professional career.”

Hayne’s switch to the NFL and sensational pre-season performances made him a global fairytale as Americans embraced the ex-Parramatta fullback. He managed eight games for the 49ers before announcing his retirement from the NFL and had a brief stint with Fiji’s rugby sevens team before returning to Australia last year.

Hayne made the shock decision to sign with the Gold Coast Titans, playing six NRL games at the end of last season. The 28-year-old is one of Australia’s most marketable athletes and has not been far from headlines throughout the off-season.

Hayne was warned by the NRL after a video emerged of him partying with a Gold Coast bikie during Titans end-of-season celebrations.

He recently welcomed his first child with partner Amelia Bonnici and has been asked to play at a lighter weight in 2017.

Hayne’s manager, Wayne Beavis, said the Under Armour agreement had expired and Hayne opted not to re-sign with the brand.

“The deal is over with Under Armour,” Beavis said. “The contract has run its course and we are looking at alternative sponsors.”

Hayne, who could not be reached for comment, has been spotted wearing Adidas and Asics apparel during pre-season training with the Titans. He will make his first playing appearance of 2017 at the Auckland Nines next month.
