The Titans either need to cut Hayne and deal with the big hole in next year's cap or they need to sack Henry and find a new coach.
Yep. If they are to have any credibility in future seasons, Titans have to back the coach here - even if there's short term financial pain. Trouble is the Board have to admit they got it wrong about Hayne... it's wrecked their team - in spirit/culture, as well as under the cap for current retention offers to other players.

But there's nothing wrong with having cap money to spend at this stage of procedings, as we've seen plenty of players be tempted away from contracts (and over-committed clubs happy to offlaod them).

Why Jarryd Hayne drama is mirroring Wally Lewis’ famous 1990 exit from Broncos

Rhys O’Neill, @Rhys_ONeill_, Gold Coast Bulletin
August 14, 2017 12:00am

WALLY Lewis has drawn on his own tumultuous falling out at the Broncos to warn Jarryd Hayne that his ongoing feud with Titans coach Neil Henry is likely to only end one way.

As Gold Coast officials today hold a crisis meeting between the superstar fullback and coach, Immortal Lewis recalled his own experience of getting on the wrong side of club bosses.

Lewis was famously jettisoned from the Broncos in 1990 after what he called a “disagreement with Wayne Bennett” in a headline-grabbing drama being mirrored by the current saga.

With the Titans also bogged down in a four-game losing streak, the uncomfortable situation between the club’s marquee signing and the former Canberra and Cowboys mentor is adding to a sorry end to Gold Coast’s NRL season.

Hayne yesterday added fuel to the fire by claiming he has been stonewalled for the past week, leading to today’s dramatic clearing-the-air talks.

“It’s very sad,” said Lewis, who joined Gold Coast Seagulls following his Brisbane exit.

“I was one that found out all too well if you don’t fit in with the coach you’re going to be heading for a different place.

“While I didn’t like it you have to accept that the coach is in that position.

“He gets to be able to make some very important decisions, one is whether he gets the boot or not.”

Lewis is a known admirer of the blessed talent that is Hayne, but yesterday threw his support behind Henry in light of the NSW Origin star's comments.

“I’ve got a wrap on Neil Henry and I think he is a fine coach,” Lewis said on ABC Grandstand.

“He’s a people’s person and tries to make better people out of those players and sadly it’s not working for the Coast.

“Everyone is making a judgment on Hayne saying ‘he’s a better footballer than this’.

“We haven’t seen the best out of Jarryd Hayne, quite sadly.

“Will that continue and will it force Neil Henry to get the bullet? Only time will tell.”

He'll be taking up $1.2 million in their cap next season. Pretty good reason to get rid of someone. The same reason Parra wanted Foran gone.

Hayne is not the sole reason for Tits poor form. However he does need to ge sacked based on his efforts which IMHO are 50% at best, plus his recent comments in the media which is driving the wedge between him and his bosses even wider.

The Titans should have accepted that he really only wanted to be there for a 5 to 9 game cameo stint at the end of last season and should've shopped him around in the off season if the coach also didn't want him. I'd suggest his poor form is a result of him not really wanting to be there.... He apparently shopped himself around in the off season to Parra and the Roosters for this season, and neither parties were interested. Surely alarm bells were ringing then.

The Titans would be the dumbest club in the history of rugby league if they sack the coach over The Plane. But, this is the same club that convinced a player who didn't want to play there to sign within 12 hours, so perhaps there are some dumber decisions to come.

And 16 (and more) other players or the coaching staff have no responsibility in that drop in form?
Rightio.
I believe you.
It's al Jarryds fault.
No its not all his fault. But he is not playing like a $1.2m player. Probably not even a $500k player.

Marquee players have a wider responsibility than playing footy. They set training and culture standards. They are the marketing face of the club.

Sack HaHa and the Titans have some cash to splash should the merry-go-round kick off like is being rumoured.

Is there anyone from the Bulldogs or Raiders that would add something meaningful to the Titans roster? If so, I'd go that route because it doesn't seem like HaHa is adding anything while taking up a significant portion of their cap.

Depends who Dogs pr Raiders want to let go. Jnr would be great for us.

Hayne is still a very good player. Always needed a year to get into groove. But BA has two fullbacks he has faith in. Anyone who doesnt think Hayne is superior to them both are crazy. He just needs attitude right. More then likely he will go to rugby.

Sacking The Plane isn't going to help them buy any players, as he will still be taking up a significant portion of their cap, as no one is coming up with $1.2 million to take over the entire deal.

This circus will probably see the Titans lose Ash Taylor - I can see it now. He'll go back to the Boncos citing too much instability at the Titans and Wayne gets his man again.... SMFH

True enough, Chippy.

Ask him to honour his word that he'll walk away, then. Give him $300k to go under his next contract and have whatever is left under the cap to buy one or two decent players in the fire sale (noting that these players will also have some of their price subsidised by the Dogs/Raiders etc.).

when jarryd is happy and around friends he plays his best footy.
I don't think he ever really wanted to goto the titans and it has showed the whole time he has been there.
If he will take a realistic wage considering his form the last 18mths and we have room in the cap then i would take him but not as a FB. Centre or Wing for mine. So if his ego can handle not wearing the no.1 then take him.
He is great mates with timmy and a few others in the team, he will be back close to his church i can only see see positives for him and if he is content and happy off the field he will play better on it.
Long as he takes his chance and doesn't waste, it's his last chance in the NRL for mine, if he f**ks it up he is finished.

That's the problem. His ego can't handle anything. If it could, NSW would have won the 2017 Origin series.

Yeah right, this is someone who's strategy has been since he committed at the end of May to his $1.2 million deal to more than likelty not be part of the Titans in 2018.

Beavis and The Plane have played the Titans from Day 1...what makes you think they're going to stop now??

Would you take him back at $500k playing wing/centre?

You know what I think happened, The Plane was keen for a cameo 5-9 game guest appearance to star for the Titans and maybe go on a 2009 Parra type run in the Finals. After that he would return to Parra on a 2 to 3 year deal and be happy. After all, we weren't playing Finals last season and we weren't even interested in him playing last year. But I'm guessing the NRL wanted him to commit longer term in order to register him for 2016 and that is why he signed the deal he did, thinking that he'd be able to move on anyway. Up until now, it's really the only part of the strategy that hasn't worked out for them, and that is getting out of the Titans, but it appears the door is now open

Realistic outcome.
