Hayne the 2 million dollar man

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I was having a beer with a parra fan today and while I was on my 8 or 9th schooner he developed uncontrolable hiccups and asked me to do something scary. My mind boggled a bit because, well I'm just not into that sort of thing. Anyway, he was only on his 4th or 5th schooner so I played along. 8 or 9 schooners will do that.

Anyway, as something scary I reminded him that yes, hayne has "agreed to terms" on a $500k deal for 4 years, but he won't sign a contract just yet, at least until next week I think I read. I thought that's odd as the GF would be another week later after that.

As a somewhat embarrased Manly fan, I suggested, well, Brett Stewart goes back to court next week, 28th I think. If he were found guilty I wouldn't be surprised if the club cut him, freeing up several hundreds and that Hayne would be Manly's #1 when his time is up at Parra. Scary thought.

And not necessarily a good thing either - I wish we could give back that dopey Williams bloke, although at least he can say he won a GF this year.

Sorry for the long winded first post, but you know what several schooners do. And in the end his hiccups came back too. We need more schooners.

Can pisshead theories come true?
welcome to the forums in a posting capacity! nothing in rugby league would really surprise me... and yes, pisshead theories have been known to come true!

If its changed, why sign Todd Carney? Why not develop Ben Jones.

Carney is better than Jones. Simple.

The rest of your post was rubbish and not worth noting, i'm certain you wouldn't have bothered whining if it was any club other than Easts.

The Sydney Roosters have been around for that long? Come on, you change your name every time a marketing guru tells you it's a good idea. There is no soul in the Roosters, or Eastern Suburbs, or Sydney, or Sydney City or whatever you'll be called next.

Having said that, I didnt start this with the intention of attacking the Roosters, so I'll try not to get this too far off track.

With respect to the comment on the previous page - I am well aware that clubs will sign other players, it's when a club is dominated by players who made their name elsewhere that I cant fathom being a supporter of.

As for the age-old "we have no juniors" defence - why not lay claim to a nice patch of dirt in QLD and put some effort in there. You'll get more quality players coming out of central/western QLD or parts of NZ than most people probably realise. That way you can develop your own players and maybe understand the argument I'm trying to make.

Bla bla bla. We changed our name, you lot drove a stake through the heart of the game. You lot wouldn't know soul if it told you to drop on your knees and suck like Uncle Rupert did.

Take a look at our playing roster and then decide whether the club is "dominated" by first graders signed from elsewhere. I doubt you will. Wouldn't want facts to get in the way of a good Rooster bashing.

Also, a lot of our young blokes are from country NSW/QLD/NZ. You are suggesting we do something that we have been doing since the late 90s. Try to keep up.

I'll give you a few minutes to go back and read what I said, because clearly you either didn't read it or have a poor ability to comprehend what you've read.

Right, now that you are back, you'll have noticed that I never talked about where juniors coming from as being the issue. The issue is clubs who sign an absolute swag of established first graders from other clubs, and do so on an annual basis creating a revolving door. How could you honestly cheer for one of these players knowing a year ago he was at a rival club and in 2 years he'll be at another rival club? Makes no sense to me and is one of the reasons I never understood how anyone supports Chelsea or Man Utd or any of the big soccer teams.

How many do you consider a swag? We will have about 5 established first graders who came from other clubs in our First Grade squad next season out of our squad of 25. About the same as we had last year.. Probably about the same as Canberra will have.

I think a "swag" is officially equivalent to a "hand full", ie. 5
