And for those of us who didn't see the press conference...What exactly happened?

in a nutshell.

Hayne said he was disappointed about how it 'went down' (telling 12 players to piss off i suppose)

He was asked how do you get motivated to play roosters on friday , he said 'i dont know'

He was then asked how do you get motivated to play for the rest of the season , he said 'I dont know'.

I was paying 100% of attention until halfway, but it was on foxsports news as 'just in' at about 4.15pm EAST.

Don't have Foxtel, but thanks for that.

It's no secret that Jarryd is good mates with Reni and Jo Paulo, so he'd be sad that they won't be Eels in 2014.

But I don't think it's all doom and gloom just yet.

Also he and Ben Smith used to live together.

Forgot about that.

Hayne's understandably probably gutted that his mates are being told to look elsewhere, but trust me - if we can get rid of the bad elements and replace them with the right people, and start winning games again, then he'll re-discover his smile. Winning cures everything. And given how he has carried this team for the last couple of years, he deserves to be on a winning side.

We wont start winning immediaitely just because he got rid of deadwood. we still have f**kall players that are first grade quality.

And hayne said he understood that changes need to be made and that there are consequences for losing, but he was filthy in the way it 'went 'down'. he wouldnt go into specifics.

Remember, he isnt just a star player anymore, hes a captain. if he isnt on song with the coach then everyone is wasting their time.

What do you expect him to say?

Hayne:- Yeah, f**k 'em. They're a bunch of useless twats anyway.

I'd be astonished if Ricky hadn't had a very long chat with Hayne about what the plan was. The timing was great because Hayne wasn't there and Hayne now has to play his part so his shithouse team mates pull their finger out.

They need to come up with the motivation themselves. Him responding with 'I don't know' means he isn't going to provide it for them.

The games have begun. I hope they know what they are doing.

Eels 2013 - we got this.

Maitua among casualties as Eels cull ranks for fresh start
Date
June 5, 2013

Stumbling: co-cpatain Reni Maitua in action for Parramatta this year. Photo: Anthony Johnson
Parramatta co-captain Reni Maitua is one of at least a dozen players coach Ricky Stuart will move on in the biggest cleanout in the club's history.

After just 12 rounds at the helm, Stuart has made a call on the roster at his disposal and it spells the end for some of the club's highest-profile names.

Fairfax Media has been told that Maitua, Matt Keating, Ben Smith, Willie Tonga, Ben Roberts, Cheyse Blair, Daniel Harrison, Nathan Smith, Pat O'Hanlon and Matthew Eisenhuth are among those on the chopping block. Some of those on the list have recently re-signed or are on contract for 2014.

It's unclear whether pivot Luke Kelly, who was dropped for Friday night's clash with the Roosters, has a long-term future with the club. Stuart isn't expected to discuss the matter until after the Parramatta Stadium fixture.

After years of under performance - including ''winning'' the wooden spoon last year - the club has acted. Stuart broke the news to the affected players on Wednesday morning in the presence of chief executive Ken Edwards and newly appointed chairman Steve Sharp. The sackings will be confined to the playing group.

Edwards then relayed the news in an open letter to Eels fans, in which he wrote, in part: ''Over a long period of time, there have been a lot of people who have lost their jobs at the Eels without the playing group ever being held accountable. As of today the playing group is being held accountable …

''Our members, sponsors and fans have suffered long enough. We truly believe today is a defining moment for this club; it's the day we drew a line in the sand. We will not be stationary in our approach on the field or off it, because success simply doesn't allow for it.''

The Eels have recruited Corey Norman, William Hopoate, Lee Mossop and Gareth Hock for next season. Edwards said there were other high-profile targets but the exact amount the club could spend would be determined by how many of the unwanted players moved on.

It's understood that Maitua - named as one of three co-captains along with Jarryd Hayne and Tim Mannah - took the news particularly hard. The loss of Keating and Smith means the club will need to bolster its hooking stocks as a priority.

''The results the club has achieved over the last four or five years aren't acceptable and some tough decisions needed to be made. Possibly, they should have been made a long time ago,'' Edwards told Fairfax Media.

''Ricky has been here for a preseason now and everyone has been given every opportunity over the first 12 rounds to show what they are made of and what they can do. We're not achieving the results we want to achieve and we had to make our mind up on who will be part of our future. We made that hard call.

''Importantly, while Ricky has made the hard call, it's something that has been discussed across the whole club and all are behind what's going on. This is a whole-of-club thing, it's not just Ricky.''

If players chose not to take an early release, Edwards said that contracts would be honoured.

Remember, he isnt just a star player anymore, hes a captain. if he isnt on song with the coach then everyone is wasting their time.

Let' start by naming all the players we currently have who do seem to be First Grade standard:

Hayne
Morgan
Loko (though he needs to work on his defence)
Sandow (even though his form is off, he's a proven performer at this level)
Mannah
Moimoi (even though he's getting on)
Hock
Mossop
Norman
Hopoate
Tanginoa
Terepo
Pritchard (for a small bloke, his defence is outstanding IMO)
Lussick

I have omitted blokes like Sio and Toutai because, even though I believe they are good enough to become good First Graders, at this stage of their respective developments, they have a long way to go yet (but I am confident they will get there, especially Toutai).

That is a pretty handy blueprint - all we need to do is add to it, fro NYC and NSW Cup and new signings. Add a reliable, sparky hooker, a couple of bomb-catching wingers and one or two props (we even have Junior Paulo blooded already) and we can easily compete once again.

It's not all doomy and gloomy IMO. In fact, this news is the best news we have had in a long time - signing Hopoate, Norman, Mossop and Hock was massive, but if they had to play in the same side as uncommitted pea-hearts, it was all for nought. At least now there is a chance these new guys can play for a club that is starting fresh.

wake up call to those who weren't named.

Would not have been a good idea for Hayne to have been part of the process, he can now be the leader to unify the team, let the players become a tight nit group playing for each other and the coaches reinforcing they make the decisions.
