Head to play this week?

Don’t expect a ‘miracle’ is the advice Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens is giving supporters when Mathew Head makes his debut for the club.

The knee injury to five-eighth Benji Marshall has presented Sheens with a dilemma as to whether he rushes new signing Head into the team for this week’s game against North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville.

Sheens said last week he was looking at a round four return for Head.

The impressive debut of young five-eighth Tim Moltzen against the Dragons on Sunday after coming on to replace Marshall is also a factor for Sheens to consider.

“Mathew Head is an option for us with John Morris being able to play at five-eighth,’’ Sheens said.

“Tim Moltzen is still an option.

“I am not keen to rush Mat in just because of this (injury to Benji) but obviously it is now a consideration.

“Whatever decision I make is probably going to be a permanent one with Marshall out for a while.

“I’ve got to make a decision now as to whether Mat comes in and John goes to six. Do I try to get that to work or do I keep Moltzen there for another week or two until Head makes himself available or is ready to play?.

“At the end of the day, Mathew will definitely come into consideration.’’

Sheens said the signing of Head gave the team plenty of options now in the halves compared to recent seasons.

“We were always stuck whenever something happened there. I was manufacturing five-eighths instead of using proper halves,’’ Sheens sad.

“That is going to be the bonus I hope. It is not just going to be an automatic miracle when Mat plays.’’

Judging by those comments, I reckon he'll play at 7, Morris at five-eighth and Moltzen on the bench again.

Question is, why wasn't Head given a run in any of the trials (even with the lower grades) if he has clearly said he's ready to play?

Who knows how Tims mind works, and we know his selection policy is flawed.

Most players will say theyre ready when theyre not.

Sheens didnt have the benefit of hindsight, he may have been preparing him for PL this week, as well as rd 3, for a round 4 NRL start off the bench.

All the comments here now are with the knowledge of Marshall now being out, but dont let common sense get in the way.

Head in a wheelchair is probably still the best option
By my reckoning that was morris' first good game in about 20 (Dogs Rd 7)
Even Shines probably realises back to back stormers from Johnny are probably not on the cards
