It's all relative to how you play. If you do sit back &/or move cover to cover then Ghost is almost worthwhile to help camp. If you are going to go "Rambo" & run-n-gun it's, for mine, wasted due to people just spraying at whatever they see move anyway & hitmarkers give you up. From my experience, & if you are just starting out, the easiest guns to control while giving you reasonable damage are the AK74u & the AUG. The AUG especially is pretty much the games idiot proof weapon over any disttance. Silence them, scopes are un-necessary spot taker IMO if you give it some time to get accustomed to the iron sights. All coupled with Frag, Nova & Claymore. I'd love to use Hacker but I can't be bothered trying to use the Jammer/Sensor to get pro.
Just for the sake of throwing a setup or two out there I've used & liked:
Aug/AK74u/AK47 + Law
1) Scavenger .....1) Hardline/Scavenger
2) Warlord .........2) Sleight Of Hand
3) Ninja .............3) Ninja
Scavenger is great for running around. Pro spawns you with max ammo, an extra launcher shell (as I carry a Law it means I just bring down the choppers that Ghost users hide from :lol

as well as resupplying your grenades. When you have essentially unlimited grenades you wonder how people llive without them. Nova 'nades are as good a warning to protect your backside as a claymore.
Ninja I use over marathon for two main reasons. I think the sprint in B.O is massive as it is, & I like being silent while having other players get louder. Just Works for me.
Warlord with silencer & dual mag. Dual mag gives you a quick reload on every odd reload which negates the need for Sleight of Hand somewhat.
I don't claim these as the best ever, just that I find them balanced over any map or game type.
