I dunno. Still 10 weeks left I guess

If Bird gets another contract he will be back in the team, if he signs with another club I doubt he will play 1st grade again.

By the time Bird gets back, Waltzing will have cemented the 5/8 spot and played for city and be a SOO star

Whilst we don't have 5/8, Matt Hilder is doing a very good job.
On Bird, well I hope we buy a good 5/8 for next year.

I think Hilder is a decent first grader. But he wasn't particularly good tonight at getting the ball out to Vagana. He spent most of the game standing inside Vagana, while Peach roamed outside Kimmorley on the other side. There were numerous sets when we were attacking the line when the ball never got to Vagana and Simmo. It was a good win, but we looked a little pedestrian in attack until we eventually wore them down. Bird will be back in first grade, he's too good not to be.

But both he And Hilder will be in the pack. The 5/8 spot will surely soon be going to Russ Aitken. He played another blinder tonight and got his 6th try in his last 5 starts. If he keeps this form up the only thing stopping him being promoted will be injury.

cough it up reefy.... Only one I hear is he isn't the size for a 6 in the game at the moment and will end up a halfback and we all know that is a dead end at this club for a few more years.

I dont concur, i belive Bird will be back in the team at 5/8, the suspension will be the best thing ever to happen to him, this guy has so much potential, the only thing holding him back is himself, at the time of his suspension he had the most line breaks in the team, what Birds needs is to talk to a retired 5/8, someone like Wally and listen to what he has to say, belive me if Bird comes back and plays to what we all believe he can he will be in the SOO side next year, you see glimpses every time, he plays then we see the mistakes, but do realise he is playing outside a great half back and sometimes its hard and daunting to be the matchwinner

Can't believe some guys are talking up Hilder and Bird as SOO players. That wont happen for a while if at all.

I'd like to see how Bird performs in a team where the forwards are actually setting a decent platform for him.
I still think he looked more dangerous, in a well beaten side, than Hilder has in his 3 outings.

One thing I like about Hilder's game though is he bobs up on the right hand side. Bird tends to just hang out the left and wait for it to come to him.

Well we've seen that
He doesnt pass!
I dont want this to turn into another Bird bashing because everyone knows my opinions on the matter but obviously Hilder is preferable

"He doesn't pass. He's a hog." Blah de f***ing blah.

Check Hilder's performance prior to tonight. He passed f all as well.
Why pass for the sake of passing? If you are not passing to someone in a better position, or there is no one looking for the ball, what's the point?

Gotta agree DJDL. In the matches before Bird's suspension, he was looking for the offload or the pass before hitting the defence, but he had very little support on a number of occasions, and the team was not getting urgent and looking for the ball.

sure bird has potential, real potential. but so does hilder plus he's a much better defender and he's all heart. they're both still very young for playmaking positions. ditto aitken although i haven't seen enough of him to comment otherwise.

only time will tell who ends up where

Bird is a better 5/8 than hilder will ever be.

He has a touch of class about him, and if he has someone like Vagana running off him then I'll think you'll see exactly what he is capable of.

He has been playing in a side that was struggling for form, with no one backing up the half breaks.

Hard to pass the ball if 9 out of 10 times there is no support player !!
