I'd just like to make my opinion clear here.
When Bird puts on a few kilos (I'd imagine he is still growing too as he's only 19) I'd play him at lock.
As for replacing Hilder at 5/8 NO.

Another factor to take into consideration is that Hilder's best position is lock, and now Dumas has been exceptional in that role so Bird has nowhere to go except the bench or divvy.

It's a tough one alright.
I would like to see Bird given a go in a team that's actually providing a decent platform for him. Having said that, Hilder hasn't put a foot wrong at 5/8th though (although I don't think it's his natural position).

But bloody Dumas has come along and played a couple of blinders, and I think he looks a better proposition at lock than Hilder.

And I agree that Bird will end up as a lock once he beefs up a little more.

We're certainly looking the strongest we have around the base of the scrum for donkey's years.

Throw a maturing Russ Aitken into the equation and Stu is going to have some selection dilemma's over the coming seasons.

So then what the hell do we do with Hilder? Bird, Aitken and Dumas will all by obviously 80 minute players.

Use him as a Jamie Feeny type player Tama. He can come off the bench and add a bit of variation playing in 2nd Row, Lock and even hooker if need be.

There is alot of 'what ifs' involved in this senario. Its way to early to tell what will be done with Hilder or any other player mentioned for that matter. We will gain alot better insight seeing what will happen with player retention. eg. Bird if he is off contract like he is suppose to be and what style of footy Raper wants to play.

Just sit back and enjoy that the majority of these players are going well for the moment.
