How goods this guy going ...kicking them from all over the park and doesn't even look like he's trying.
I think the club should sign him up for ever!!!! Before the Rorters come along and steal him .
He reminds me of the classic old utility forward with a bit of footwork and handskills like Cyde , Furner and Gav Miller etc etc

I said last year that I thought he had a HUGE future here.

Great kid, bit of a tearaway when he was younger, getting himself into a bit of mischief, but like most 'adventurous' kids he found an outlet (in his case, footy), and he has really shone.

I think also, his experience 6 or 7 weeks ago when he discovered the body of his neighbour who had taken his life, will have given Matty a valuable life experience that will only make him a stronger and better person.

I had the pleasure of meeting his lovely girlfriend at the presentation on Saturday night too, she is a really nice girl and they are a great pair. That, and the fact that Matty's mum is just tops, he's got a really stable personal life to support him and keep his head level.

He deserves the praise we're heaping on him. After all, he's played - what, 30 or 40 1st grade games (tops) - and already we are relying on him as one of our senior players.

Lock forward is definately his position.
Dumas,Bird etc. find another position.

Absolute tackling machine and still has plenty of petrol for attack!

Hilder is a champion! The amount of work he does is awesome, he offers us so much. 5/8, Lock, hooker, goal kicking etc. He is a great player, a future captain I'd say. I would hate to lose him but I love the fact that he signed a new deal at the start of the year so we didn't have to worry about losing him

What about Hilder last year. He was our rookie of the year and one of our best players and he only expected to play a few games off the bench at the end of the year. He has played every sharks game since the start of 2003 hasn't he?

his kicking distance is the only thing that worries me

from merritts try, he took the ball back only 20m. the ball never looked like having the legs from the sideline

otherwise everything else seems pretty good with him

Yeah, all 24 I am pretty certain. Hasn't missed one this year either!

A try on debut when he came on in Round 1, 2003. Treister had come off with blood streaming from his eyeball, Matty had to come on at hooker.

Hasn't looked back since. Go son! :D

Hilder is a legend.. He gives 100% every game, normally leads the tackling count and his attack is great.. Also a handy Goalkicker..

Lets just hope he keeps the goal kicking job when Noddy comes back, it would be a disgrace if he didn't.I noticed on saturday hilder was still chasing and tackling at the 79th minute he is no bludger thats for sure . Another factor with him is he can play any number of positions in the forwards or the backs and what a shame he wasn't a queenslander because he wouldv'e played SOO this year for them, wasn't a hope with the gooster and lozza show.

Good to hear his goal kicking is going well. He's got a big punt on him too - a few weeks ago against Canberra he really nailed a couple.

True, but we're looking for accuracy not distance. And when you take a sideline conversion back 20m, it's still a hypotenuse of around 38m that he has to kick and he's consistently kicked 'em from the sideline so it shouldn't be a problem. Waltzing is going to be a pointscoring machine!

This season he's kicked 12/15 - 75% which is very, very good.
