Hindmarsh Selection Shock

INSPIRATIONAL Parramatta second-rower Nathan Hindmarsh is poised to make a shock return from injury in Sunday's NRL preliminary final against North Queensland.

The minor premiers have said the Test forward will be considered for selection in the match after today completing "all necessary training requirements".

It said no decision on his selection would be made until game day, following a final consultation with the club doctor.

Hindmarsh underwent surgery after tearing the posterior ligament in his knee in Parramatta's round 26 win over Brisbane three weeks ago. Earlier this week the Eels' best hope had been that Hindmarsh would return for the grand final, if they got that far.

Unsportsman like? BBSF your stupidity never ceases to amaze

Everyone could see this coming. Eels did the right thing by saying he would be out, that way the team can focus on the weekend ahead.

Its called tactics. But the Cowboys would have been preparing for Hindmarsh playing. So it won't surpise the Cowboys.

THe medical staff, Brian Smith and even Nathan himself wouldn't allow him to come back too early, especially with what lays ahead should Parra win.

Probably cause they were watching the Footy Show and Hindmarsh gave a definite no chance of playing on Sunday.

Heres another article by the media showing how behind they are.

Is Smith playing games?

INJURED Kangaroos star Nathan Hindmarsh was last night surprisingly catapulted into the selection frame by Parramatta coach Brian Smith ahead of tomorrow's Grand Final qualifier against North Queensland.

In a shock development, the Eels released a media statement at 3.59pm yesterday outlining how Hindmarsh would be considered for the sudden-death match with the Cowboys.

The move comes in stark contrast to what Smith offered when asked about the possibility of Hindmarsh playing earlier this week, when the Eels coach retorted with a firm "No" at a Parramatta-convened press conference.

A cruel twist saw Hindmarsh injure the posterior cruciate in his right knee the night the Eels clinched the minor premiership with victory over Brisbane on September 3.

At the time, Parramatta doctor Michael Johnson conceded Hindmarsh was unlikely to play again this season and the Eels forward suffered a further setback when his surgery had to be delayed after he took a bite of a doughnut.

When asked about the prospect of Hindmarsh playing earlier this week Parramatta coach Brian Smith said: "Nathan's not been able to do any training at all at this point in time.

"For a game as big as this, I feel I should put everybody at rest, including ourselves, about our preparation.

"Nathan won't be considered this week but if we make the Grand Final I'd consider him to be a very good chance of selection.

"I don't want to push him and for him to re-injure the knee ... I also don't want our team worrying whether he's playing or not."

Despite those comments, the Eels put out a contradictory statement yesterday afternoon. It read: "Please be advised that player Nathan Hindmarsh has this morning completed all necessary training requirements and will be considered for selection in Sunday's (25 September) qualifying final against North Queensland at Telstra Stadium.

"No decision on his selection will be made until Sunday afternoon, following final consultation with the club doctor.

"Neither the club nor the player will be making any further comment on the matter until such time that a final decision has been made." Cowboys coach Graham Murray last night refused to be drawn on whether Hindmarsh would feature in tomorrow's match

When he was saying he wasn't going to play he was smirking and smiling.. it was quite obvious he was going to play or hadnt been ruled out completely. He has a sh*thouse poker face!

If he was actually going to play surely Smith wouldn't put out a media release telling everyone. Unless they had to change the program to put him at number 21 or something, but I think they can do that on the day
