SUNDAY'S performance against Souths showed what everyone has been saying about the NRL for a long time - it is so close and so competitive that if one team is a little down, they will be punished. We were a little down with our attitude in defence and had 49 points put past us.
I can't remember playing a game where we scored 26 points and were still comfortably beaten, but such is life in the NRL. There was no way we were complacent heading into the game - we knew how hard they would be to beat and how enthusiastic they would be. But we just couldn't get ourselves out of the rut we created by a poor attitude in defence - and once they started to play with a bit of confidence and a bit of momentum, they were virtually impossible to stop.
It is with great pleasure that we return home this week. Playing in front of a big crowd at Parramatta Stadium is always a big boost, but we cannot, and will not, rely on that to get us home. We simply have to stack the entire 80 minutes with a same attitude with which we approach the first minute - it is that sort of enthusiasm that will be required against a team that has the ability to put plenty of points on the scoreboard.
